I ordered this bike and crashed it on my first ride, hitting one of those yellow security posts at the beginning of a cycle path. Gutted to say the least.

The resulting impact took a couple of gouges out of the left fork leg, and impacted the down tube, putting a nice dent and scratches in it (see attached pictures), and yellow paint on the left crank arm. Other than that the bike is as new, have only been ridden a couple of times.

Because of the damage am not selling this as a rideable bike, but just for parts.

Genuinely shed a tear.

Ridiculous! Essentially just cosmetic damage, it'll be stronger than the same bike would after a year of hard riding.

Should've bought a carbon one.

Rode it into a post? On a cycle path? On the first ride?

Shouldn't he have been at the cafe at Llandegla?

Yeah I suppose it will fail, eventually, at that point. But it'll take a while. I had a dynatech with a crumpled down tube. It eventually turned into a slingshot-a-like, after about 5 years of thorough abuse.

Surely Canyon could sell a new front triangle for it?

why did you buy that to go down a cycle path?
Not surprised it steered itself into a post - probably trying to commit suicide.
hopefully its next owner will treat it properly

It'd be nice to own a bike in such good condition!

I had a similar knock on my old 2004 Stumpy FSR (not from a post on a cycle path I might add). It didn't affect it in the slightest and I rode it for another 2-3 years. The guy I sold it on to is still riding it.

Last couple of pics look alarming - but might be really close-up?

I'd ride it too.

I think they're just really close up.

I take it the top tube is supposed to be that shape? Looks like it's been bent up by a front impact!

I'd be annoyed that I had damaged it on the first ride but I would carry on riding it. It's nothing major, wouldn't bother me in the slightest to ride that for years to come.

I've owned and ridden bikes with worse damage/dents and never had an issue tis but a flesh wound.

How fast was he going to dent that like that? I rode a Kona Explosif with a bigger dent in the downtube for years. I eventually sold it on here but not sure if it still exists. I think hes a bit OCD, could have been like this! This was 2 hours old, from what I understand the owner bought it new from a shop in Morzine, hit a bank going a bit fast and thats the result. Forks were perfect, wheel was straight and true, just a fault in the frame.

That Kona? Obviously too heavy a fork for a bike rack like that.

Anyhow, the sad ones I sometimes have are when my customer has died and the relatives want rid of their dream bike.

Especially because that's when wives discover how much that £300 bike really cost.

😀

I was building a road bike many years ago for someone, and he was buying it in installments - he'd turn up one month and give me enough money for a front mech and the like. Anyhow one month he turned up at the front door, and beckoned me outside, then handed me £200.

When I looked puzzled, he explained that his wife had told him he wasn't allowed to go in "that bloody bike shop" again...

To be honest I think this is a load sadder. 🙁

We had a pretty much mint Stumpjumper FSR in our office for a while, owner (local) took a heart attack while out riding and sadly didn't make it. Nobody could bring themselves to make the widow an offer though.

I'd give him £50 and thats me being generous, proper write off like. Nothing salvageable on that is there...

Evan if he was really paranoid a good LBS would have done a frame transplant on it.
