Hi All,
New here so apologies if this is frowned upon!
My wife sadly has MS, she was always a keen mountain biker so, as she became less able to ride we bought an El Conquistador de Montañas tandem. Sadly we only used it for about 10 short rides before she deteriorated too much to use it. That was about 5 years ago and I have been keeping hold of it for sentimental reasons (hanging on to the hope she would recover enough to use it.)
I now need to sell it but it is a really specialised bit of kit. I will put it up here in the for sale section but can anyone recommend anywhere else that may be useful? Ruled out ebay as I just can't see there being enough interest there.
Thanks in advance for all your help
John
Just googled it - lovely looking thing 🙂
I'd put it on ebay for the widest audience - listing costs aren't that high if it doesn't sell.
ebay and advertise it globally (with restrictions) as I can imagine people being happy to ship it anywhere.
Certainly on here though, and on any of the the tandem club forums.
/checks down back of sofa for hitherto-unsuspected enormous stash of loose change
Velovision magazine might also be worth a go - but I have pretty good success selling recumbents and other similarly rare things on eBay, as long as you can arrange shipping then you should get a decent price for it.
might be worth a try:
That is a truly lovely thing. Awaits with interest the advert to see how much you are asking for it, knowing it would be more than we could afford.
You could list it on Ebay as "But it Now OR Best Offer", I know the fees are higher but you will not be taking a big risk.
Try and get some exposure in Europe too.
Good luck.
Thanks Guys,
I'll post a picture up later before getting the for sale ad ready to go.
It really is a work of art!
That's a shame that your wife can't use it, such a nice bike, I've been looking out for a tandem for a while so I would be interested, what do you want for it and where are you based, I would rather collect it than have it posted as that could be a little pricey.

Very sorry to hear about your wife. A friend's father has MS and now rides an ICE trike. Have you considered a semi-recumbent tandem such as a Counterpoint Opus, Haze Pino or Circe Morpheus? She could ride at the front, and with independent drive, add whatever input she felt able (sadly not off-road). You could enquire as to a trade or trade in?
@ TiRed. Thanks for the sympathies and ideas. We did try her on a KMX kart with motor but she is wheelchair bound now so past that. There are some offroad wheelchair options I am looking into but they make MTBs look cheap!
Along with lots of others here, I'm very interested and keen to know how much you want for it.
cheers

I could definitely help you out with a trade-in to get a Hase Pino if you wanted to go down that road. Pinos can be pretty sporty off-road 😉
Edit: just read your last reply. Perhaps not a Pino, but a pair of Kettwiesels? You can get into them from a wheelchair, and they couple together.
Ryder - if you're down South at all check out Avon Tyrell in the New Forest (home of the Big Bike bash).
They've got a lot of specialised kit andf some great trails which may be suitable for you both - including some of the machines mentioned above.

Wow,
Thanks everyone for the replies.
@40mpg: I am in Worthing so will look at Avon thanks.
Really surprised at the level of interest: maybe MTB tandems are not as niche as I thought! Going to have a chat with the LBS that supplied it and see what I paid for it (Somewhere in the region of £5k I think) and then decide on price.
Do STW charge for Classified ads? If so I would like to do it that way to support the site.
Was going to say I saw one of those in the LBS a few years back, seeing as you're in Worthing it's probably the same one! Quest by any chance? Lovely thing, I particularly like the ridiculously long name down the top tube. If you need a stoker for one last go give me a shout!
Sorry to hear that news, hope yo find someway to enjoy yourselves together in the future

No, ads are free but you are also able to bung them a few quid afterwards to say thanks. Lovely bike, wish I could afford to buy it from you but it's probably going to be out of my budget at the moment even secondhand 🙁

I think a lot of people are looking and drooling and not realising how much more expensive tandems are when compared to solo bikes! A lot of people above I suspect are thinking of having a cheap tandem in the garage so they can have a laugh with their mates, and that's a wonderful idea but an ECDM is not a cheap bike to stash at the back of the pile, it's a wonderful piece of machinery
It will sell quickly though, no doubt. If you need an invite to the Tandem Club group on facebook as linked above, message me and I'll add you
ryder.
what size is it please?
our current tandem might need upgrading. 🙂
BTW if you need to consider freight, a couple of useful links

I've used Paisley for sending car tyres with no fuss at all. Note that you would need to consider insurance if sending by courier
Had a request for details from a friend unable to post here - no contact details in your profile so I can't email you, would appreciate it if you could drop me an email (click on my username and I'm sure you'll work out what my email address is)
cheers

Hi
Could also be very keen - please could you drop me an email with sizing etc and an idea of price to georgebudd1@gmail.com
Thanks
GB
All the above suggestions, plus MTBR forum in the states. They have a dedicated MTB Tandem section. I've just sold Lapierre MTB tandem to a UK buyer who made contact from this forum. Will be collecting a new ECDM this weekend 😀 .

Judging by the response here, you've probably found a buyer already.

Judging by the response here, I'd be auctioning it.
Oh, and could I please have details of size and spec as well....
OK Guys,
Thanks for all the interest. I am going to go into my LBS and see if they still have the specs and price on hand. Be warned though I am thinking 50% of the price when new is reasonable for what is essentially still a new tandem (closet classic as they are called in the guitar world :))
Will post spec tomorrow.
@Davaosaurusrex, yes it was Quest! I also think I saw you out on the downs a month or so back on your Turner. We stopped and had a chat (I was on the Solo)
Sorry about the lack of contact details; here you go
johnburtonXinsetonlineXcoXuk just replace the Xs with the usual
Thanks again all
Wrong size for me or I might be interested. Best tandem ever made. Sorry to hear you didn't get to thrash it properly. Half price would be a steal, they hold their value pretty well. But it depends on finding a buyer for what is a bit of a niche item, of course.
that's quite a low price, quality tandems hold their value very well - I'd have expected 3k and 3.5 wouldn't have made me bat an eyelid. As expected though it is out of my price range. Bets of luck selling
ryder - think that chat was a few months back now, time flies and all that! If JP had his database up and running when you bought it I'm sure he'll have the details, he's got a record of about every single blimmin' thing I've bought from him on there!
Sorry to hear about your wife, no consolation but sounds like you should get a good price for the tandem at least. Looks awesome with the Bombers on the front.
Half price for a bike with only ten rides sounds too cheap to me too.
If I hadn't just built up an MTB tandem myself, I'd buy it straight away at that price.
ryder, Firstly, sorry to hear about your wife.
Like the previous posters I think that half price is to cheap for an ECDM. I'm the guy that bought switchbacktrog's Lappierre - (wonderful - So Much Fun!) and I had real trouble finding a suitable used MTB tandem - so you should get a lot of interest. Posting on the TC Facebook page will also reach a few dutch - who seem to have a lot of active MTB tandemists. Tandems do really hold they value, if they were a quality machine in the first place.
Get the specs from JD tandems - there the only people who import Ventana into the UK AFAIK
@swithcbacktrog - glad to hear it - school holidays have started and yesterday pm we did the whole of the swinley blue without incident 🙂
wow that's a lovely bike, I'd auction it as it's v sought after.
Sorry to hear about your wife & shame the mtn biking together plans did not materialise.
OK More details,

Looking at new ones JD Tandems are asking 6.5k for similar spec.
I am thinking £3-3.5k. I will reply to those who asked for more info via email but if anyone else is interested/wants to make an offer you can email me at johnburtonXinsetonlineXcoXuk just replace the Xs with the obvious bits!
Would much rather the buyer collects as I would be terrified shipping it. I am based in Worthing West Sussex
Thanks everyone for the help. If there are no takers I will look to ebay etc. Will donate some of the proceeds to STW and the MS society if it sells as you have all been so helpful and nice 🙂
Regards
John
