I thought the red NEW stickers had been removed but they've just gone orange :-/

There were a few minutes without them I think.

Looked much better imho.

Thumbs up to the change in colour for the NEW badge against threads with new posts.  They are still inconsistent for me though.  All threads get the NEW badge, regardless of if I've vistited the thread (and there are no new posts since then) or not.
Thanks for getting rid of the "stuck" 1st posts for threads.

The much nicer coloured 'NEW' button on forum page still takes you to the first post not the last post.

Colours of stuff WILL be adjusted. But they aren't the priority today.

Priority jobs today are adjustment of empty space and tightening up of navigation options.

Get the forum cache sorted so that posts appear where they should.

Reminder! Performance won't improve for logged in users until we have finished the import of the old forum and deleted the old one.

Is the threading of responses a thing now? It seems this means they're not always in chronological order for me now.

Response I just posted to a thread just disappeared when the page refreshed.

Brutal. The slow response I understand, but the layout, the colours, the navigation, it's just so bad.

Another in the 'really not a fan of that' camp. Keep them as they were or replies get lost, especially if the original post is on another page.

Then don't release it to the public until it's all done ? Take it offline for 2-3 days and actually give people a decent experience when they return that actually does what it's supposed to ?

STW could do that with a significant income loss, paid members not having a service they par for or could release it live and causing a few issues for a short while. Whilst also getting live feedback on the issues.

We just put the maintenance page up there for a short time while we tested a new layout and hunted a slow query. We got some good results. I'll update later this evening.

thought id try a workaround for the nested quote thing on the 'bassists' thread.

i deleted all the extra bumph in the

tag which i thought may be tying it to the original post, so just left with clean quote /quote tags.

however, it took around 3 or 4 mins to submit, i refreshed the post and theres no sign of it.  yet if i look in the overview page, the bassists post is still some way down the list, BUT, it shows me as having posted just a few mins ago.

I am getting emails for new posts to the bassists thread that I am subscribed to, can't see where to turn them off in my profile settings, might just be me being stupid.

Much quicker even with the ongoing migration, and more functionality by the looks. Some reacquainting but it looks good.

I see someone mentioned the duplicate threads being created a bit further up this page. But there are also lots of duplicate replies in some of the threads. I was responsible for a couple on the pedal axle grease one.

Responding on an android there was no indication that the forum was doing anything with my response after hitting submit, so i pressed submit again (and again potentially) and then got bored and did something else.

Can the  forum say something like updating/submitting/sending your response?

Wonder if I'll be able to work the quote function on this version of the forum

Should we be worried that you've paused the migration and yet the forums are still very slow and posting is remains essentially broken?

Thanks for getting rid of the "stuck" 1st posts for threads.

I thought that was useful, personally.  Maybe just render it in a different colour?

As someone who deals in massive (many many terabyte) database migrations all the time, I'm surprised its actually going as well as it is. There are no tools for doing this off the shelf, or if there are they're invariably written for subtly different schemas, rarely handle anything with aplomb (oh you've failed, care to tell me why or where? Nope you're just going to exit with some random error code. $%£kers!) and generally need someone to heavily lubricate things with their own queries and stored procedures. I bet the journey of where you're coming from and where you're going to has been seldom taken, so there'll be little out there to act as a guide. Pretty amazing for such a small team.

Weird paging issue - in the screenshot I hovered over the Last Post link., the URL shows it wants to take me to page 8, but the page numbers show I'm on page 7 of 7.  Clicking the link takes me to page 1

Also, the old forum used to produce an error if you tried to post too soon after posting. Is this on the cards?

Hi Mark, well you did ask ‘;~}.

in my account there are various clicks in the header bar

Posts:

none shown

What is a “post”? If not a post on the forum?

Comments:

only ancient ones shown, maybe I’m not grasping what a comment is -

What actually is a “comment” if not a comment on or reply on the forum

Messages:

I have a red dot which seems to indicate a new message but it’s referring to one I received years ago, replied to and even hid so I didn’t keep having to visit just in case there really was a new message.

Forums: “topics started” seems to be the only option. No “comments made”:

I’m sure I’ve started topics since one 2 years ago about ticks

Friends: I did have friends but not now.

Gone:

(a while back but not returned despite “working on it” admin comments) -

the option to see a list of topics I’ve been involved in. (Ideally each just listed once NOT repeated for every comment)

Yeah, I know that went away ages ago. Can it come back please?

Without the ability to revisit new topics I posted or questions I’ve asked and my comments , the forum is a pretty ineffective platform for communication.

is the follow feature working now. Users get an email about a new comment?

thanks

I’m sure it’s quite a task.

I've spotted a few minor niggles, presentational things and personal preferences really, so not priorities and not dealbreakers for me but I thought I'd get them written down in case the inspire tweaks in the future.

  • I miss not having the option in the main forum thread list to jump to the last page or the most recent post in a thread. Going to the first page then faffing around with the page dropdown is just that little bit less smooth, especially on threads that have many pages.
  • The main forum thread list no longer seems to be sorted by last posts. I find that a bit weird. What is it sorted by?
  • There seems to be a lot of whitespace at the top and bottom of each post in a thread, it makes everything feel very spread out and inefficient.

Like I said, all pretty minor things!

I guess you haven't read any of the updates that Mark has put in this thread. Server performance is expected to be slow until they've finished copying over the data, which will take a few days. We're getting this for free, there's no justification to moan.

When you cut over to a completely new platform, you normally parallel run for a period. You set up the new one in a staging environment, and copy the bulk of the data to it, as well as having new data pushed to both the old and new platforms. When you’re happy everything is working on the new platforms, you cut over with minimal or no interruption in service.

And it’s not free. People are either paying in memberships, or paying in ad views.

I think i like it.

My only slight grumble is there seems alot of deadspace between posts.

Big gap at the bottom of a post followed by quite an airy username part.

And no real definition so i am am struggling to konda pick out where the thread content is.

Like it would be alot easier if the actual post backgrounds were one colour and the usernameetc backgrounds were a different colour. Then my brain would read the dark/light bits.

But currently my brain reads a post and then struggles to find the next bit. I mean i genuinely do struggle with stuff like this.

Tldr. My brain does not have the capacity for this.

I've posted in the WRPT twice now. But neither post is showing for me. In the summary at the top, it said last post was by me for a while, and gave the time elapsed since it was posted (which changed, as expected, on refreshing the page), but no posts. Now says last post is by someone else, Tom? But I can only see up to the posts that were there before I first posted.

Tried deleting browser history, no change.

Mobile (Pixel 8) on Chrome.

Looks like there are some threads where you can’t get to the last page. Might be caused by all the double/triple posts messing up post counts? Dunno. Good luck!

Im adding replies, and its hanging for a full minute, maybe a bit more, then it does go through and no post/reply is visible.

Click on it, refresh the page and still nothing visible. But if i go to the forum main page(in this case 'Bikes') it shows me im the last poster, but click on it and i cant see my post/reply tacked on the end. So its there but just isnt showing.

I  don't think this is user error, but it may well be: I replied to a post here: https://singletrackworld.com/forum/bike-forum/funnest-bike-for-5-foot-kid-2025-used-of-course-4/#post-13529120 and it duplicated my reply several times over several minutes.

On Android phone:

- on STW account deactivate Dark Mode

- in browser make sure you're on Light Mode.

- in Settings for phone make sure you're on Light Mode. This affects your whole phone.

I can now read the site, I've been unable to up till now.

The old forum used to generate a prompt if you tried to post more than once in a certain time period. Can the new forum software maybe do something similar?

Also, what’s the consensus about nested replies (please can we not)?

IT AUTOMATICALLY JUMPS TO THE NEWEST UNREAD POST!!!! WOO

Doesn't work for me. Windows 10/Firefox. Just takes me to first page and have to use the newest post link to get there which is a pain when everything is so slow to load.

Have we lost the clickable forum list bar at the bottom?

+1 we need to go back without having to go back a page within a topic. Unless I'm missing a link somewhere?

And

My topic list is not by order of last post

Glad I'm not you lol
