Keep getting logged out, Android and Edge. Plus above, try to log in but everything covered in ads, plus so slow you tap twice which doesn't help.

How do you log off in Android?

Steps in screenshot below, note that the icon under Members Area doesn't show till you tap on the empty space (I assume it's a white icon on a white background).  Once that menu opens, logout is shown at the bottom.

Thanks Verses

I also found that you can click on your user name in a post and logout via "settings"

Someone mentioned "Hotel California" ^^ I understand why now 🙂

@mark please can you improve on Android's life jacket logout... reach under your seat, pull the lifejacket out, put it over your head, tie the straps in front...

This has probably been covered somewhere else but.....

....when you click on a thread it takes you to the last post you've read, which is amazing, unless the thread has multiple pages, then it just opens the thread at the OP. If you click on the arrows it takes you to the last post, which is bloody pointless if you finished reading the thread on page 2 and it now has 4 pages....

Is this something that is going to be looked at or am I doing it wrong??

I might be wrong, but I don't think it's as simple as being multiple page threads, I think it's threads from before the upgrade that take you to page 1 post 1.  Anything created after the upgrade seems to know which was the last post you read.

This takes you to the last post.

As I said that takes me to the last post created, rather than the last post I read.

Yeah, not for me any way. If it has multiple pages I just get the OP regardless of when it was created. Only one page and it takes me to the last post I've read.

Out of interest, why would you want to?  About the only thing I ever manually log out of is my bank account on a PC (and mostly then only because it whines when I return if I haven't).  Everything is protected by OS-level security such as a PIN or hardware keys.

We've had some very dodgy characters on STW over the years but I can't imagine anyone taking me round the back of the skull with two pool balls in a sock and then going "quick, get onto his bicycle forum account!"

I haven't moaned before, because I basically love you guys.

Is the font colour (in dark mode) on a to-do list to fix?

If so, that's fine, but if not then please consider changing. At the moment, whenever I open a forum page, I almost rub my eyes because it looks a bit like the page is behind a bathroom window. The contrast is terrible even in quite good light.

I think that all of the colours used could do with revision - at the moment it's a bit like "different shades of grubby that aren't very different from each other", and far from being stylish, just looks rubbish.

There's also way too much wasted space (I'm using Chrome on iOS, maybe it's different on desktop or on a huge phone screen?). For each post there are four or five lines of stuff that's almost irrelevant before getting to any content - the poster's name is one line, then some icons that are no use to me, then a line containing how many posts they've made (I don't see any value in that), then a line saying 'full member', then one with a report button plus some other bits, then finally we get to what they wanted to say.

If the answer is "just give us a few days" then that's fine, obviously, just wanted to check that this isn't how it's intended to look (and if it is then please be aware that it's really not good).

Not a huge priority maybe, but as a logged in subscriber I'm still getting a pop-up advertising box.  Only on the newsletter page though for some reason?

OOh - New skin!  When did that arrive!

I Like:

  • New thread layout, with better differentiation between posts, but consistent look/colours to each post
  • "Hovering" menu bar across the top as you scroll up an down.  Non-intrusive, doesnt take up a lot of screen size, moves right to the top once the Singletrack header goes off teh top of the screen.  Nice.
  • Return to Top of page hover buttin in teh bottom right hand corner of the screen!  Yay!  Almost superfluous with the hovering menu above, but woudl ratehr have it than not.
  • Quoting a bit of ta post/reply works really well now. Brilliant!
  • Would only take a minor tweak to alter to a "coffee and cream" colour-scheme, as a mordern interpretation of the pre-2008 hack version....  Go on, you know you want to!  Special anniversary edition maybe?

All on Chrome on W11.

Really good work all.  I know I've genreally been a critic of change around here, but this is looking great!

THanks,

Keith

Actually, the only thing that doesnt "work" is when I've viewing the screen at 100% (default) zoom level, the hoveing meny bar goes across 2 lines, with "members area" on the second row.  At 90% it resizes to all being on one row.  Could be my screen size (standard 14/15inch laptop), resolution or font setting at my end I guess.  Not sure is you can/awnt to force that setting at your end, especially as I hate how Windos 11 doesnt let you double-height the task-bar, I can see that being a setting of user preference!

Oh and the notification hover button in the bottom right!  Shows when yu have unread messages, and clear them when you have seen them!  Awesome!  Really excellent work on the User Interface guys.

I can't find an obvious "Contact Us" link on the new site, nor an "About" type page or similar. It seems like an odd oversight.

Not odd. Just an oversight. It's all in the footer. It's just not displaying by default in this theme.

Running in dark mode I now see pages initially loading in normal mode with the white background then flicking back to dark mode. I'm pretty sure that they used to open straight into dark mode.

Every time I change device (android, chromebook, chrome of windows laptop, edge of work laptop) I get logged out.

Don't think anything has changed my end and only started after recent STW changes. It would less frustrating if this site was not so slow and logging in leaves you on a different page and you have to navigate back to where you were.

yep, same here, wouldn’t be so bad, but for the ads, full screen, so you have to dismiss them to get to the login, or over the top of the keep me logged in box. It’s quite irritating.

The logging out is not great and having to play whack an advert to try to login is a bit shit.

Timescale for a fix?

Yeah, also having to log in every time I come on the site for the last couple of days. On phone and Chromebook. The adverts blocking the log in screen are a little tiresome after the 3rd or 4th log in!

I don't know if that was addressed to me, but in my case I'm not. It's the forum doing the logging out not me.  Every time I close the browser and come back here. It started doing that yesterday.  I've tried clearing cookies, got "remember me" ticked etc.

It was happening on my Win10 work pc using Edge on Thursday as well, which was a little irritating when looking for a quick moment of slacking.

What is this "close the browser"? On PC or Android mine just sits there with 15-odd tabs open for weeks. Mind you, when I do reboot the machine, I am still logged in to STW when I restart everything.

Had a new weird thing today

Try and get in to the forum and you just can’t scroll down on to any thread. After what feels like an age it might start working, or I get bored and go do something else

It’s done it every single time I’ve come here today bar once

I thought closing chrome on my phone was prompting the forum to log me out. It's not, even if I leave the browser tab with STW open, just leaving it for 10 minutes or so and I find I've  been logged out when I come back to it. Umpteen times already today.  It is properly annoying.

Two reasons: Habit from work and my Android browser tends to log me out anyway

When you use the quote feature, sometimes it says "posted by username" and sometimes it says "posted by real name". Why is that?

Long delay in posts appearing on the

https://singletrackworld.com/forum/bike-forum/ortlieb-quick-rack-curious/#post-13595897

thread when using the link in the subscribed to thread email. If use the latest forum button and then access the thread there, the new posts appear.

Not a big thing but caught me out at first.

Edit: Link corrected

Every account has two names (and has had for as long as I've been here at least).  There's probably official terms but let's call them account name and display name.  The account name is fixed, it's what you use when you log in.  The display name is changeable on your profile but no-one really noticed because a) few people actually changed it and b) it was (almost?) never used anyway.

On this incarnation of the forum software it is - presumably incorrectly - showing the display name instead of the account name in quotes.

So if I change my display name to something such as “insert novel name here” it will be displayed whenever I am quoted?, cool 😎

I know it's a bit sad and I should have been out riding a bike today, but for "reasons" I've spent a lot of time on the forum. I now get logged out if I leave my phone for more than 2 or 3 minutes. Every time. I must have logged back in again about 15 or 20 times today, it's driving me batty!

Not on a Sunday evening obvs, but I wonder if this could get moved up the "things to fix" list next week? It only seemed to start doing this on Friday. Initially it was on phone and laptop, but now it's only on my android phone using the Chrome browser. Thanks in anticipation! 🙏

Weirdly I was just coming on here to comment that it looked like the regular logouts had been fixed as every time I've come on here today I've not had to log in again once.

Very strange that 2 users can have exactly opposite experiences on the same forum at the same time.

If it helps, I've been using a Moto g82 with Android 13 and whatever the latest chrome version is for it.

I realise this is no help or comfort to those who are affected by the logging out, but I can hardly remember the last time I had to log in. (My memory isn't great but it's not *that* bad.)

So it's not a problem that's common to all, and might be tricky to track down. I'm using Chrome on an iPhone, in case relevant. I almost never come here on any other device.

My experience is the same. I really do sympathise with anyone on the tech side trying to diagnose and fix these problems.

I use Android/Chrome and Windows/Chrome and basically can't recall the last time I had to login, though IIRC it was immediately after a forum update.
