Is there any way to hide threads?Â
I don't thinks so, but there is always the option of not opening those that don't interest you.

This is the way I usually do it. Just wondering if there is a stricter optionÂ
Posting lag is definitely still a thing. Looking at Cougar's thread at the top of the "latest threads" page, it says the last post was 2 minutes ago. I've noticed other posts on it being notified on the summary recently. And yet, if I open it, the latest post I can see is two hours ago.Â
As an experiment, I tried logging out. No change, there are apparently 27 posts on that thread now, with the last a few minutes ago. I still only see 9, with the latest now nearly 3 1/2 hours old. I then cleared my cache, cookies all browsing data and rebooted. No change, either logged in or out. Chrome on Chromebook and on Android phone.
Edit: Just tried on the PC, on Chrome and Edge browsers, logged in and out. Still showing only 9 posts, despite there now apparently being 29.
This may or may not have been said - I suspect it probably has been - but the single biggest remaining niggle for me is the inability to go to the last post in a thread direct from the overview page. ie: I don't want to have to first open the thread and then click the 'last post by' link at the top of the thread.
I get that it's two clicks instead of one, but it's irksome. Why not just make the 'last post by' link on the overview/index page - eg 'Latest' - simply click through to the last post on the thread?
Is it simply a way of getting more clicks on the forum or just an oversight / some sort of technical issue?Â
From a user point of view, it means that you're constantly having to make a two-stage journey which could easily be done in one with a link from the index page.
Also, the 'last post' link at the start of threads - ie: at the top of the first page when you open an individual thread - isn't highlighted as a hyperlink, which means it's not immediately apparent that it is one, same as the main page 'last post' text which isn't a hyperlink. The last poster's name is highlighted and obviously clickable.Â
I know that like trained mice, we learn to work round both these, but if there's a way to the last post of a thread without opening the initial page of each thread, I'm missing it. I don't want my in-box filled with thread reply notifications, so that's not really an option for me.Â
Thanks. Otherwise it seems to be working reasonably well for me at least. Not experiencing posting lag.

If you click the double arrows >> at the end of the thread title that takes you to the last page/post.
There does seem to be some radio silence from the tech team over the post delays. There was talk of a fix weeks ago.
Â
Â
An update would be good, Mark has been pretty good on that, but nothing on the delay specifically for some time. I'm not that arsed about all the formatting or appearance stuff. It's the posting delay that kills the forum ebb and flow and makes it far less inviting to use. The fact is it's still an issue many weeks after the change over, with no recent news as to possible solutions despite a flurry initially. That does make me worry it's now a permanent "feature".

Cheers for that 😀
It's not the most intuitive link implementation I've ever seen, which is probably why I, and presumably others, haven't spotted it.
I get that it's neat, but why not just make the words 'last post' a clickable link for those of us who are word orientated?Â
Please!! Thanks! etc

Keep asking this with no response! Is it possible to subscribe to a thread without getting emails (ie top of page email replies) or by commenting and then subscribing?
Basically I just want to follow a thread and get a notification when I log on that it has been updated (like we had before)
PS other than that I think it's pretty decent now.
For me the crap superpowers thread is showing the last post at 05.37, (someone has insomnia!) it's now 09.30. Totally random though, others are updating just fine, this one for example.Â
@blokeuptheroad , I think Mark is having a break (well as close as he gets to one)... let's be patient.

I wasn't aware of that and wouldn't have posted that had I been. Thanks. He certainly deserves his break, I hope he's enjoying it.
Yes, Mark is on a break so is on strict rules not to go on the forum. They have been down to 1 IT bod too over the last few days.Â
They did find a possible cause of the missing replies issue, yes I know I have said that before, so hopefully they can sort it soon. As you can tell it is rather random of who it affects and which threads so makes it a bit tricky to fix.Â
There are plans to tweak other parts and issues over the next couple of days.Â
Thanks for the feedback and patience.Â
Posting lag is definitely still a thing.Â
It's weird. It's surely a caching issue? I've just posted on the Hive thread, at the top of the thread it says last post by me, 2 minutes ago, yet it's not appearing. It's like the post is being committed to the database but not being retrieved.
Other posts are instantaneous. I can't see any pattern to it. Post count related maybe, is it when it's due to tick over to another page?
This has also been mentioned loads of times, but I've never seen an acknowledgement that IT have picked up on it, but posts don't seem to lag universally; posts that haven't appeared for some are visible to others.
I've seen posts quoting from posts I've made that haven't shown up for me yet. Possibly not relevant, but seemingly worth flagging again just in case (a quick Google on WPForo & caches does seem to suggest that there are personal caches).

Mark said pages back that there are two caches, one for WPForo and one for Wordpress VIP (if I remember correctly) and there's a suspicion that they aren't playing nicely together.
Whilst I don't fully understand how it all works there's a logic to this to my mind, it's like in the old days where you'd have two antivirus products installed and you'd end up with race conditions because they'd fight like cats in a sack. I could however be way off the mark.
Had a quick look and can't see anyone else has mentioned it but for a free member whose experience is enhanced by advert overload, I can be often typing a response to a thread whilst adverts are appearing/refreshing etc which sometimes results in what can only be described as my typing acting as a keyboard shortcut which bounces me to the bottom of the page and out of this typing window.

Yes I think I remember that. It still strikes me as odd though that a post may be stuck somewhere for one user whilst visible to another. It's also odd that we seem to see different posts depending on whether we're logged in or out.
The overall slowness makes the forum quite unappealing. It's not just the posting delay but also the general page loading time is very high
Reddit, retrobike and Mumsnet are all. much faster.
I posted on the UK government thread yesterday morning and mine is still the latest post showing (to me at least). Three people have reacted (positively I hope - thanks to whoever binned the anonymous like feature 😉 ) and I've since seen four different names as latest post by.
Speed is fine, I can post pics, all the features I've used work, I just can't see some posts even 24h after they were made.
Â
Presumably already posted but..
New forum looks horrendous in an iPhone. All the rendering is a mess.
Text on top of other text. Ads taking up almost all the screen. Text overlapping graphics. White text on grey background.
And pages take average 5 seconds to load.
Same on a Mac but with slightly less overlapping.
It’s worse than the old forum.
As said above - very unappealing and a difficult user experience.
Am I missing something, but as a full member why do I get a (currently temu) huge advert before I click off it to get to the forum? I’m signed in?Â
I'm a free member so I expect and accept adverts. However, the new full screen adverts for car finance and weight loss by walking that pop up for every thread don't seem to have an X on them to shut them down. I click a thread and then have to go back to clear the advert. Is this how it's expected to work?

if you figure it out let me know. I get loads of adverts when signed in, iPhone & desktop. Full page ads pop up when clicking onto a thread 🙄 Been going on for a looooooong time.
I'm a full member but currently the forum thinks I'm a free member.
I read your user name as Christ!

Christ on a bike?
Happy to report that all seems just about ok for me now. Good work
Can someone tell me how to post up pictures from postimages ? It doesn’t seem to work as it did before. Thanks
Â
aha, thank you 🙏Â
I think that you just paste a Direct Link straight into the editor.
yep, that works great 🤣Â
As may or may not be visible to you, hotlinking from Postimage is a premium service of theirs. Use a different host or, as a STW Full Member, just paste the image directly into the editor. (Or of course, get your hand in your pocket if you definitely want to use Postimage.)
Â
I have o doubt missed it somewhere in the preceding 30 pages, but can someone pls give me a quick clue as to how to start a new topic? Buggered if I can work it out atm
Thanks Drac, I thought I'd tried that, but FA seemed to happen at the time. I'll have another go later
^^ Yep - worked this time. Clearly I wasn't being patient enough the time before.

Ah, I hadn't realised that. Oddly though, having never used them I uploaded that screen shot above (as an anonymous, not logged in user) and hotlinked using their provided link, by pasting it straight into the forum editor; currently it still seems to be showing (unless it's caught in WPForo's cache of doom).

Odd that, I'm still seeing the original image (despite refreshing a few times). If I right click over it and open it in its own tab, I get the "Upgrade to Premium!" banner.
It’ll be cached on your computer.Â
@thelawman You have to be in a subforum (bike / chat) rather than overview. Then there's a little icon at the top of the list of existing post for "new item".
Edit. Weird; despite having opened tis thread about 5 minutes ago, it's only since me posting my reply just now have those half-dozen replies appeared. Feature, I suppose ?
Why am I suddenly seeing a load of adverts?Â
Should be gone now
Yep, ads now gone. Cheers.
No matter what I do to update my profile cover photo, the old one keeps coming back.
