Since having had a daughter a year ago, I don't get out riding much and the vast majority of my riding is done locally - mostly at Ashton Court and Leigh Woods.
Anyway, I think the new Ashton Court trails are a good call given the amount of traffic and the usual mud-fest through winter, but they're so smooth now, I wonder if I should save myself some money; sell my Flux and go back to my HT?
The Flux is great, but I don't do long rides anymore (and probably won't for quite a while) and I always had a blast on my Kinesis - by far the best HT I've ever ridden - it just fit me perfectly (women specific) and was super fun!
I can't help thinking a HT is more suited to the riding I do now AND will save me some much need pennies... but am wondering if anyone has done similar and lived to regret it?! ๐
Save even more money, as get yourself a BMX for Ashton court ๐
I was thinking the same, after riding there last Friday. However, the trail builders say that as the trails wear in, they will become less smooth, so maybe wait a while before making a decision.
Turners are hardly expensive to run are they? Jam some grease in the ports and away you go. No tedious bearing changes. Half the reason I bought one myself.
richc - I like your thinking! Only problem is the 14 mile round trip to get there!
Not expensive to run no, but will sell for a good deal more than a replacement Kinesis would cost me! (Particularly as it's currently in perfect condition, having only been ridden 5/6 times!)

My knees hurt even thinking about that.

Ok yes, agreed, but there is nothing 'wrong' with it, and presumably you'll lose a chunk of money on it compared to what you paid for it ๐
A couple of points here:
You will ride more again in the future
You can stiffen the suspension when you want to
You can spunk away a load of cash on a bike replacement against some half-finished trails you think might be better long term on a HT. Possibly. Given you've ridden several hundred yards of them. Just after being built.

Well, yes and no... there's nothing 'wrong' with it, but it just doesn't seem to make me grin as much as my (stolen in Nov) Kinesis did. Of course, I could have rose-tinted spectacles on as I was a lot fitter when I had the Kinesis and it was a lighter build (which at my weight definitely makes a big difference), but still, I can't help thinking it fit me better - perhaps because it was women's specific rather than just small? I don't know?
As for loosing money, I would loose a fair chunk yes, but I did get a very good deal and presumably the longer I have it, the more money I'll loose... Hmmm, I'm sounding scarily convinced of the idea, aren't I?! ๐
if its a brand new bike, then just blow the rear shock up a bit harder.
If you sell it now, you will lose 50% of what you paid for it straight away.
They will roughen up a bit, but if they're the only trails you're going to be able to ride, then I reckon it would be more fun on a hardtail. But I would have said that about the old trails too. What trails did you buy your flux for?
(Also, what size flux?)

Will I??? Presumably you know more about my life than I do? ๐

yes, but that won't save me hundreds of pounds...

A little bit of an edge to your point, but nonetheless, you're right - the trails are new, but I'm inclined to agree with thebunk anyway. It's more where my riding is now limited to (largely by choice of priorities) rather than the fact the Ashton Court trails are been resurfaced. Having said that, it did make me think about it a bit more when everyone was going on about how good the new trails are on HTs... T
he trails aren't the main factor though (which my post may have been misleading about, sorry) - it's more the opportunity to put some money in the pot and potentially go back to a frame that fit me a bit better, with the trade-off of it being less comfortable on longer rides...

I bought it as a whole bike and got a cracking deal, so won't loose anything like 50%, having said that, I couldn't ever afford to buy another one I don't think. We could do with the extra cash though!
Thebunk - yeah, like I say above, I actually agree with you, but perhaps even more so now. I wasn't really thinking of specific trails when I bought the Flux - it was more that it was a cracking deal on a great bike tbh. (Oh and it's an XS.)
Bottom line is, for whatever reason, I think I preferred my Kinesis HT! ๐ฏ Just wish I could ride them back to back to be sure! ๐
MM, if you do decide to sell then let me know - mrsbunk has been making noises about getting an FS recently!
