[Closed] Is £400 enough to buy everything (except the frame) for an ok spec bike?

So I've got my frame (Cove Handjob XC) but nothing else except pedals.

I'm limited to a budget of £400 pounds for the build but wondered if you guys/gals think that's enough for a ok quality build?

I'm happy to buy off the classified/eBay but am I kidding myself that I can get everything I need with that budget that I won't have to replace after a couple of months.

Mainly XC riding by the way Peaks/Wharncliffe etc

Easy if you use the classifieds.

... or sell the frame and buy a complete bike which will get you better value for money

Yeah Funky if thought of that but I love the frame and really want to build it up.

Are you think something like an On-One?

2nd hand bike. pinch components. sell frame. cheaper than buying the parts.

Just paid £245 for SLX f+r mechs, shifters, cassette, cranks and chain from CRC and £134 for SLX brakes and rotors from Merlin. So, maybe a mix of classifieds and new.

What they said ^^^

It'll always cost more than you think, especially when you manage to shear your rear mech when fitting the night before a biking holiday to Scotland. You'll then have to fork out 50 quid for a new one at the Edinburgh Bike Co-op as it's the only shop that's open.

It happened to me anyway. 😆

Easily achievable to get a ridable bike, might be bit harder to get one with parts you want on it.

That blows the whole budget without doing forks or wheels - being the most expensive parts... 😕

I'd definitely looking at buying a bike and flogging the frame.

Yeah I just don't have the money to buy a full bike, the frame was bought a while back on the credit card so I could sell it and buy a Inbred with full SLX for £899.

If I build I'm worried costs will creep up as has been mentioned.

400 quid is easily enough to build an ok bike. As others have said your best bet is to get a second hand complete with some decent bits on it and swap them over.

Otherwise take your time and pick up cheap bits for next to nothing on ebay and here

Forks 80 quid Wheels 50 drivetrain 50 brakes 35

leaves you with 185 quid for the rest of the build, with most bits only costing 5-15 quid
