Hi all,

I am in need of a new hardtail to ride the trails. I fancy a carbon lightweight.

Options I have so far are

Kona Kilauea 2010 frame, Ibis Tranny frame.

Has anyone got a Kona Kilauea, any reviews for on the trails with this bike. Would love to build a sub 24lbs trail bike. But obviously want it to be strong too.

Just wanna know how good these bikes are on the trails really, harsh rocks and for climbing.

Cheers guys.

The On One Whippet got good reviews, and is less than half the price of most of its competition!

Or there's the Carbon 456 too, for the same price, 2/3 lb heavier, but stiffer, stronger and ready for a big fork and some abuse by the looks of it...

Either would easily build into a sub 24lb bike, and the money you saved on the frame would mean you had more to spend elsewhere...

For really harsh rocks I'd go FS.

'trail bike' is probably something a bit more 'meaty' I'd think?

Maybe a Carbon 456 and some of those new lightweight DT swiss 150mm carbon jobs as the basis of a build?

I spent a day on a Whyte 19 Carbon on the Quantocks, that would be my choice.

If its a trail bike you want surely a carbon 456 or something similar is more suitable than the super lightweight suggestions?

Most if not all carbon ht are race frames with head and seat angles too steep for trail riding.

Orbea Alma?

Although the 2011 version of my 2010 bike is now £1000 more expensive with no change in specification or design. Looks like I got a bargain!
