That air loss sound...

[Closed] That air loss sound when removing a shock pump?

Is it air in the pump or air escaping from the valve/chamber you can normally hear?

If I put 200psi in the boost valve on my DHX5 and remove the pump I hear that air loss sound. If i put the pump back on the pressure has dropped by about 40psi. It's a rockshox pump that I use.

Any thoughts. Cheers.

Don't worry. It's just the air in the pump/tube escaping.

When you reattach the pump you let air out of the shock into the tube. It was 200psi before you tried to measure it.

its just the air from the pump.

when you plug the pump back in the reduction in pressure is attributable to the pump. Dont woory!

Depends on your pump, I've seen cheap ones that leaked before the valve was shut. A decent pump should have a double-acting collar that first screws onto the valve, THEN actuates the valve with a second threaded section, in reverse the valve is closed with equal pressure either side, then the excess in the tubing is released with the final section coming off.

I've had shocks that were difficult to inflate and found that putting a dab of grease on the valve and the thread made a difference. Not sure if it was the pump or the shock.
