Teeny little brake ...

[Closed] Teeny little brake part - Elixir CR - do I need it?!

Somehow my pad spring twisted itself into the pads/rotors this morning and made a horrible noise. After much faffing, I replaced the pads and spring but the tiny little split ring that holds the pad retainer bolt was wrecked and pinged off into somewhere unknown.

Do I need this bit? Anywhere I can get one? Seems like it's just a "back up" safety measure but I guess it's better to be safe.

And I simply cannot find anywhere that sells them! Any ideas?!

I'd agree - I think they're a bit 'belt & braces' as I can't see how the bolt would unscrew. Having said that, I'd probably try and find a replacement if it were me 🙂

Trheadlock on the bolt or a wee blob of silicon on the end to stop it unscrewing should it come loose??

That happened to mine too. I thought I better get it sorted so ordered them from the link below, It also happens to be my LBS and the only place in the country I could find them at the time. I managed to coincide loosing the little ring with rounding off the allen head so I really had to get it sorted.

L Ache - nice one. Not sure if it's me being tight - £5 is fine but £2.50 for delivery hurts! Will see if my LBS does them. If not I'll bite the bullet and buy those. Cheers!

You're in Truro right, Halfords will keep packs of those little spring clips, just hope they have ones small enough.....

Called my LBS - they have them and they cost 20p each. Ideal!

Just get a bit of wire/thin paperclip and push it through the hole and wind it around - works the same 🙂

Such a bad design - one of the reasons I got shot of my Oro's - I ended up thread-locking the bolts in 🙂
