I don't really understand though, how can team GB compete in a world tour race?

Thought it was erm, different?

Cool. Plenty of the Olympic Squad have suffucient road experience. I see Dimension Data are in somCavendish and Cummings we should see too.

They have done the past few years, it's a development squad mostly of younger riders getting high level road race experience.

The Yates rode the ToB in team GB colours before being signed to Orica for instance.

As I understand it "world tour" means it's run according to UCI rules, and any "world tour" team (Sky, movistar, astana etc) must attend. Other places are available at organisers discretion, hence the appearance of Fortuneo–Vital Concept, a pro-continental team, at the TDF...
