Finally bit the bullet and bought them after deliberation.
The rebound and lockout i am familiar with - in laymans terms what am i doing with the compression?
With talas do i just select the travel from the dial and press the fork down?
Before anyone says - try it, its dark and raining out there!!
Can't personally see what difference the compression makes! - would like to know though.
What year talas' are they? post 2006 they will just rise as you select the travel, and will compress (if under a small amount of pressure) when you go back down the travel - works really well
If you find the travel adjust is a bit slow, then you can do a self service if your confident and re-charge the travel adjust (it's a bit fiddly) but not actually difficult
new old stock 2009s 🙂
so travel adjust - i just change the dial and the fork sucks down or pops up?
yep - i presume it's 100-120-140?
you presume correct 🙂
It is worth learning to service them/replace the oil yourself, as they will last longer and be buttery smooth if you look after them - just a warning they may need "breaking-in" (not literally) at first before they feel as smooth as they should.
Fiddled with them earlier - to get the travel adjust to work i have to turn the dial and push down - is that right?
erm.....yes&no.
They should (well mine do) come up on their own when you up the travel, but you need to push down to reduce the travel. You may well find that as their new they have a bit of stiction so need a little encouragement at first - you probably won't know until you've had a decent ride on them.
The travel adjust basically works on a small additional air chamber that is under high pressure, so as you turn the dial the chamber enlarges and the pressure ups the travel (pressure is highest and travel will change quicker from 100-120, than 120-140 (but not by much).
