I'm going away in a couple of months to ride Moab in the States with a few mates, flying American Airlines, I'm thinking that it would be nice to take my AirShot pump with me but I'm wondering if it would be allowed on the plane. I think I would prefer to carry it in my hand luggage, that way my bag won't be ripped to bits if its x rayed.
Any thoughts...
Looks like a compressed gas canister (because it is obvs) so I can't see them liking it one bit. Worth a call to the airline if you really want to take it
Put it in a rubber sheath and then slip it up your arris. I knew a bloke who smuggled drugs into prison using this technique.
You probably won't be allowed to carry in hand luggage - you could bludgeon the crew and take everyone hostage

Davidtaylforth I feel for your "friend" ๐ OP it will be fine in hold luggage with no air in it.
Take the lid off and it's just a metal bottle. pack it an the top apart and I can't see any problem at all.
If you want to travel with it, depressurise it and unscrew the valve from the bottle. Friends have done exactly the same when traveling with air bottles for paintballing with no problem at all.
I just flew back from Ireland with one in my hold luggage, no issues at all. Just made sure the valve was open beforehand.

I can't believe anyone with half a brain would try to take a charged airshot on a plane?
Reminds me of the time my wife suggested that we take powdered milk, in a plastic bag, on our holiday to Florida.
I'm not sure what puzzled me more - the fact that she thought Florida was so backward that they didn't have milk, or that carrying white powder into the U.S. would end happily.
Regarding depressurising things, I suppose on top of removing most of the air out of the tyres, the same must go for the suspension and the Reverb post.
It's worth depressurising shocks as it puts the stanchions inside the shock or fork and protects them in transit. I partially deflate tyres to help them fit in the bag.
I wouldn't depressurise a reverb, but again I would compress it to protect the stanchion.
Thats a great suggestion Andy, Stanchions are very easy to damage in transit so compressing the fork and maybe zip tying it down will protect it and increase space.
My thought about the reverb is as you put max pressure it can't take any more, where as a suspension unit at say 200psi once bottomed out will be at something like 1000psi, so our suspension should be able to compensate for the increase but the reverb shouldn't, but to be safe I'll remove from all and "compress to protect".
