[#1863656]

Currently my Rockhopper is set up as supplied with the shifters inside the brake levers.

I find that I have to stretch slightly to change gear and it struck me that I'd be more comfortable if I swapped them round.

Is there any reason they're set up that way? Will it all go Horribly Wrong™ and end in a pile of blood, bone and sinew? Or is it just a personal preference?

The way you've got them means that you either need all four fingers on the brake or you'll trap the others if you only use 1/2 finger braking.

I run my brakes inboard of shifters - does though mean you need to 'lose' the shifter windows (not all shifters allow this, easily), and/or move them on the mounts (mine have 3 holes for 2 bolts).

Thanks b r. Just checked and I do no need to 'lose' the shifter windows (which I don't look at!). Is it possible to get covers for Deore shifters without the window?
