DrP I have a XT756 hub sat in front of me. Will the axle from that do?
Or I could bring a rear wheel tomorrow, Crossmax SL running some interesting summer rubber.
I too have a spare rear wheel and I can bring my tools to switch your casette over as well. (what size rear disc do you run?) I'll stick a tyre on it. Let me know...... 🙂
This had better be a good ride now that I've been out and bought some waterproof shorts especially for it...! 🙂
Anyone need a lift? Heading out of Southampton at about 8:30am with one spare seat and room for one bike.
I am really looking forward to this! Spent the afternoon cleaning the bike bus. Bike is ready to go, all lubed up. Ladder is packed(for the erection of the STW banner), picking up lanky mate(to help with banner) in a few hours. Might even bake some cookies for the ride! Does anybody need a lift? We are leaving Hertfordshire around 8am if interested.
Went for a XC ride at Swinley today, so much fun in the wet. Going to get the bigger bike out for tomorrow as fancy a bit of a play. I will be the one already covered in mud.
having seen the weather forecast you'd be better off taking a windsurfer...
im leaving hertford at 8am too!!
DrP your spare wheel is ready.
Hello, due to a mechanical issue in Wales today I'm not going to be able to make it tomorrow 🙁 Have a good one guys and gals!
My brain is not working at the moment so could anybody tell me what time I need to bring the banner? It won't be as pretty as I wanted it to be due to family-related complications we've recently had but will say Singletrack in colourful font(s). Can somebody bring a string/rope so we can hang it, please?
HC - I think meeting up is from 9 for a bacon roll and a fettle for the ride to start at 10.30. But Im sure coordinator CG will confirm your duties and timings.
Cool, can leave before MrsHC gets up and has a [s]brilliant[/s] idea of sorts.
RudeBoy & I won't be able to make it tomorrow.
Have a good one everyone!
Hairychested,
Hope you're a little more prepared for this ride? Leave the cramp monsters at home please!!! 😉
Ooooh, I'm trying to catch up!
Bad luck to those who can't make it and I have only two words to say to RudeBoy - "girl's blouse 😉
OK, I will hunt for some string to bring along, not sure where the banner will go but hopefully the car park will be devoid of sensible souls.
Reminder 0- have you bought your permits online yet?
Food - Cafe open from 9.00 am for bacon rolls, fried egg rolls, tea, coffee.
Discount voucher - yep, a 15% discount voucher to be used at Mountain Trax in Wokingham. Great shop with loads of bling and good selection of demo bikes. Please see me, I will also have them them with me at lunch time.
Looking forward to this one, there's 3 of us coming up from Worthing for it. Hoping to be there by 10 so don't eat all the bacon rolls 😉
will be there on the SS with summer tyres on about 10ish, hmm soggy wet baggie shorts or lycra..
Dobo: me too! SS and summer tyres is this season's must-have look! Complete it with soggy baggies as wet people in skintights gets me in to trouble with the feds... 😉
Now, which bike to take?
Hardtail with slippy slidy summer tyres, or full sus with the best part of 7" both ends?!?!
Do I win a prize for either if it's the most unsuitable bike/tyre of the day? 😛
mboy: summer tyres and driftage is IN!
Oooohhh, should I bring my ss? Normally only ride it when on solo rides cos I'm a bit, er, vocal 😯
Summer tyres ... you know it makes sense. Swinley trails was really good on Thursday - it has its own micro-climate dontchaknow 😉
i'll be on my hummer wearing soggy baggies and a massive smile 🙂
Normally only ride it when on solo rides cos I'm a bit, er, vocal
Didn't know it was that type of forum ride 😕
😉
Gobby on the forum and gobby on the singlespeed. Normal otherwise although some from here may disagree 😉
Actually I have a geared bike in the dining room, all cleaned up 🙂
I am going for bike bike and big tyres 🙂
Are people still planning to turn up if it is pissing down with rain?
On another note, is anyone driving from South London? (Around New cross area) I hate taking my bike on the train...
Rusty, how BIG is your big bike?
Thinking of bringing mine just cos it's got grippy tyres on!
Are people still planning to turn up if it is pissing down with rain?
Define "pissing"
I'm turning up whatever... Seriously, it's been a while since I've been on a laugh of a forum ride, think it'd have to be a monsoon to make me not wanna ride!
That's the spirit, mboy!
I've never been on a forum ride and have never ridden my new bike off-road so, despite this (http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/warnings.asp) and a wonky route on the train, I shall defo be there!
Are people still planning to turn up if it is pissing down with rain?
I'm sacking it off if it isn't biblical. There's nothing worse than dry, dusty trails. Mountain biking is about MUD dammit 🙂
I will be there. It will be fun. We will have the trails to ourselves ... maybe.
Actually I have a geared bike in the dining room, all cleaned up
well you'll have to take me as i am.....i was bustin some skillz at afan today with old fart and my bike is a mess - and i don't care!
it's supposed to be pretty windy too!
perfect timing...here was me thinking Ill be the only fool out in the terrible weather I saw forecast for tomorrow! See you all tomorrow morning!
can you all use spd's so i can try all your bikes :0
thanks 😉
i guess if the weather is somehow seriously mental, we just eat more bacon rolls until it settles?
Ooooh aleigh, glad you had fun 🙂
CTML - at the last Swinley ride in January, the temperature was minus 7 degrees and 50 people turned up 😯 It was a great day and the trails were running really fast 8)
I will be there no matter what. I'm riding a white gary fisher.
solamanda - pleased you're still coming but why no rainbow bike?
dobo - thought you would have been racing at Bordon?
CG, i had planned too as its a great course, but i just dont fancy paying to ride if the conditions are going to be awful, also killed my geared bike and running summer tyres
Does anybody have a singlespeed tensioner they can get me for tomorrow? I want to ride my SS but can't get the chain tight. Please!
hairy chested, yes i do have one you can borrow for the ride as i managed to get mine to work without one with 32:17 and a half link
its push up so wont take up too much slack though
And does anybody know where I've lost my bite-valve??
I'll be there rain or no rain.
Awww bugger it. I've made certain promises which mean I MUST turn up tomorrow......
I'll be the one on the orange 853 Inbred with full mudguards & mud tyres, wearing the green Gore tex, a permenant scowl, and cursing the weather for ruining my photography.... 😉
I'll have a full tool kit if anyone has a busted bike too.
How do we identify each other? Do we wear name-badges? Paint our forum names onto our frames?
Or (eeek!) actually communicate without a keyboard...????
How do we identify each other? Do we wear name-badges? Paint our forum names onto our frames?Or (eeek!) actually communicate without a keyboard...????
You want to be identified?
Name badges, NO THANK YOU! I am infamous enough already I thank you! 😉
Hmmmm, communication without a keyboard eh... Perhaps we'll have to re-invent that age old art of conversation! Seriously though, as anybody who's ridden with me before will attest to, I'll be busy chatting away whilst riding... Still to decide which bike to bring though!!!
Oh, and Black Giro Helmet, Brown Camelbak, and either a silver Genesis Hardtail or a Gold(ish) coloured Giant Reign X full sus...
Hello in advance!
Well, if it was dry I would suggest sticky labels. But it's harder for us girlies (and I use that term loosely) cos there's always far more blokes' names to remember!
Keep meaning to get a sticker with my forum name put on my bike ... or is that really sad?
that is really sad !
i'll be wearing a red rose..............
ill be the first one to fall off 😀
dobo, cheers! I only have a 16t cog and lost my half-link. I'll be counting on you then 😉
I'm getting padded up.
jedi - do you mean you'll be wearing a poppy?
Looks like I will be getting wet tomorrow then. I will be on the black 575 and just feel like a gentle bimble after rugby today.
See you all there!
nah, i'll be wearing a stoopidly heavy back pack , soaking wet baggies , mahoosive grin and hairy scarred legs 🙂 🙂
it's supposed to be pretty windy too!
.....mmmm windy you say? Just had fajitas and some nice real ales.... don't ride behind me!!
Jedi are you driving on your own? If you want to follow/and or ride with us we have the room.
yeah on my own. meet on route?
Planning on taking the 8.56 train from Earley->Martins Heron (or the 8.26!). If anyone else is planning taking same route, don't be shy! will be on commencal hardtail.
Oh how I wish I still lived in Reading - it was so easy to get to the Lookout...
Anyone coming from The Big Smoke/departing Clapham Junction around twenty past 8? Let's clog those carriages!
We will be coming from St Albans area, just off the m1. Gonna take the m25. Can meet anywhere around here if you want.
mboy - 7"
meet at mcdonalds car park near london colney/m25 junc?
yeah that sounds good, what time? We need to get to swinley a bit early to put the banner up. What vehicle are you in? Is this kinda like dogging with bikes? Lol
{through bleary eyes} too early, but must drink coffeeeeeee {/through bleary eyes}
See you all soon!
I'll be the one in the Ark...
DrP
My bloody chain tool snapped! Will need to borrow somebody else's to join the thing, darn 🙁
Living Hampton TW12 in about an hour and a quarter, down the M3. Anybody going this way? For your safety watch out for an erratically driven Pug estate.
Have you lot SEEN the current rainfall radar???!!

Top tip - Wear your finest goretex laydeez and jellyspoons, and carry a snorkel!
😆
Mr PP, change the source of information, there's surely another website that shows some sunshine for today.
"Rain before 7, fine after 11"
never fails 🙂
haha, folks take your armbands, Swimdon town is sinking and its getting blown quite forcably in the direction of Sinkley forest! 😀
Crikey, was still bone dry here at 4am this morning (don't ask why I was still up at that time!), and I've almost got to swim from my front door to my car now...
See you all in a bit!
Jedi, leaving in a bit, will see you in the Macdonalds carpark, we will be in the white fiat van.
i be there 8-15/8-30 🙂
cool see ya there
Just stepped outside... at least it is a bit warm!
it's perfect riding weather
*unpacks sunglasses and sun cream, replaces with aqualung* 🙄

Although the info is correct, I'm just trying to wind y'all up. I was umming and ahhing. Now I've made my decision to come, I don't care any more. But I have fine waterproofs! 🙂

Not a quote I've ever heard before, but I think it might not be far off 🙂
Touch of damp in the air this morning
see you all there . i make it ride o'clock 🙂 🙂
Just grabbbing the flippers and snorkal and I am off!
The rain has only just started and it's a wee bit windy 🙁
Well done to those who are still coming 🙂 Can't you just smell that bacon? Yum!
Hairychested - I have a chain tool you can use.
Just started to piss down ten mins ago... half a mile from the Lookout. Gone all dark and gloomy - sure the BBC have issued a severe weather warning by now (just incase).
Anyway.....despite keeping off this thread until now and saying i had other stuff to do...... I think I'll join you all. 🙂
Now where's me Goretex?
