[#2702592]

Mrs M has unilaterally booked a cottage for a week in the summer somewhere near Muker (?) in the Yorkshire Dales. Looks absolutely lovely but excuse my ignorance (and this is my first foray into research) but what's the riding like round there? Any suggestions for where to aim for? Where to avoid??

Both on MTB and road bike, although only likely to take one or t'other...

TIA, as ever

Amazing riding for both road and MTB, you'll need a good pair of climbing legs [or a compact] for the tarmac rides, plenty of 20%+ climbs

MTB stuff is vast and [as above] check out the Dales biking centre for routes, it's only a few miles down the road from Muker

Muker is bang in the middle of two really good loops, Gunnerside gill going North and Castle Bolton loop to the south. Or ride up to Tan Hill, have lunch and come back.

Loads of well used Bridle ways round there and once off the B6270 you see very little traffic.

The Farmers Arms in Muker is possibly the nicest, friendliest pub I've ever been in.
Great food: Uncomplicated, well cooked and lots of it.

Oh, nearly forgot, the riding is superb too!

never mind the biking, you simply must try the cheese!

Another recommendation for Stu at the Dales Bike Centre, having just spent the early part of this week staying there. It's ace up there, and Stu was really helpful with route choice.

My favourite MTB area, did the pinseat climb last week but I have to admit I only do fremington Edge down [the drop to Fremington itself].
There are also several routes to look at in the Vertebrate Graphics North Dales book.
