Ti 29er (rigid/ss)
WTB Stout 2.35
Bonty Mud X 2.0
XC on Mendips
Excellent in current conditions. Stout comfy rigid and lots of grip. Very heavy though. I run 2.4 RR in the Summer. Mud X first run today - grippy! Impressed. Probably run Bonty ACX in the summer.

Love em, been running the same setup for a year now and dont really get on with anything else, not great in the mud 😉 bit draggy uphill but whats the rush?

Summer Bonty ACX on Motolite and Bonty Revolt Super X/XR Team on Maxlight.

Just swapped over to Bonty Mud X today as well - spent most of the time on tarmac where they are also grippy, but not too draggy.

Bike: Orange 5 Pro 09
Front tyre: Maxxis Minion DHF 2.35 60a Single Ply
Rear tyre: Maxxis Minion DHR 2.35 60a Single Ply
Type of riding: XC, South Wales trail centres, Brecons, Cardiff local trains
Your thoughts on said combo: Very happy, since I've put them on, haven't really thought about them, and I guess that's a pretty good sign. Plenty of grip in all conditions ridden so far (dry, rocks and roots [wet and dry], torrential rain, grass, mud).

All ok round Swinley/Thetford/N Downs at the moment. The Alberts are brilliant.

Mountain bike: Chameleon. Ride everywhere; Chilterns mud, south wales trails, peaks grit.

Nobby Nic UST 2.1 front and rear. Not bad as a GP all round tyre. Pressure sensitive.

Road bike: Continental Sport Ultra...it's winter, don't care as long as they stay up

on one scandal no-sus, SS mudbike
trailraker tubeless rear
mud-x tubeless front
type of riding: soon to be fully submerged, 2hrs a week nightriding
thoughts: it's forward motion rather than cornering grip I'm after & they're pretty good. failed on the slippy off-camber roots last time out, but that's about 100yds max during a ride

Bike - Merlin Malt 1

Front: Bonty Jones Mud X 1.8 with tubes \ Nobby nic 2.1 tubeless
Rear: Bonty Jones Mud X 1.8 with tubes \ Nobby nic 2.1 tubeless
Riding: General Trail and XC - Bonty tyres are fantastic. Very good in most things, clear well and are very dependable. Nobby's are great until it gets too gloopy

Best tyres ive ever used, if you can work traction well and move about on the bike, can be persuaded to grip in any conditions. A true all year pairing.

Orange five with minions 2.35 front 42a rear 60a

I find them a grippy, tough and predictable in all conditions, including the mud we've got now. Was going to change for swampthings this winter but keeping these on now.
They are a bit draggy but I'm happy to sacrifice this for the above good points. Can keep this tyre on all year round.

Orange P7
XC type riding
front and rear Panaracer fire xc pro 2.1"
I get on with these tyres and have used them for years , find them very predictable in most conditions.

GT Ruckus I-drive
gravity assisted riding
front Kenda Blue groove stick-e 2.5
rear Kenda Nevegal stick-e 2.5
These are on still cos I can't be arsed switching them for my 2.35 swampthings but they still hook up well in most stuff.

Orange 5 with 2.35 High Roller 2-ply Super tacky on the front and Minion DHF Maxxpro on the rear.

South Bristol, Mendips,Quantocks, Exmoor and South Wales are my normal trails.

Front tyre is abit heavy (unsurprisingly) but stupidly grippy on mud, rocks and roots. Minion is okay on the rear but not as good as i'd hoped TBH.

Both run ghetto tubeless too.

Tracer VP
XC on rocky / rooty trails
2.35 Highroller LUST

They feel ok, but lacking grip on really wet conditions. I've ordered supertacky Minions to experiment.

Bike: On-One Inbred
Front tyre: Vertical Pro 2.3
Rear tyre: Bonty Mud-X
Type of riding: Scottish Borders and Pentland hills XC, very muddy, wet and hilly.
Your thoughts on said combo: Been running this setup for two winters. The Vert handles the front well but need extra traction in the gloop for the rear, hence the Mud-X. Mud-X gets swapped out for another Vert Pro if going to trail centres.

Bike: Giant Faith
Front tyre: WTB Timberwolf 2.5 dual ply
Rear tyre: WTB Timberwolf 2.5 dual ply
Type of riding: downhill and drops.
Your thoughts on said combo: Heavy but are a nice pair for the trails I ride, seem to be a decent compromise for all types of terrain. Just don't expect to climb fast with them!

Bike: GT Avalanche
Front tyre: IRC Backcountry 2.3
Rear tyre: IRC Backcountry 2.3
Type of riding: Trail centre/xc type stuff
Your thoughts on said combo: Nice fast rolling tyres and enough grip for most conditions, although get a little skaty in mud.

I have done most of my trail riding over the last few years on Schwalbe Fat Albert 2.35s. Schwalbe have discontinued the 2.35 & replaced them with either a 2.4 or a 2.25 I believe. I read that the new version also has a poor compound. It's a shame as the Fat Albert 2.35 has been my "best ever" all round tyre. I don't change tyres for different seasons.

Im Replacing them when they wear out with Maxis Minion 2.35 DHF single ply both front and rear. They seem a great tyre.

I am a serial tyre swapper depending on bike and conditions.

My collection of tyres goes from Conti speed king supersonics to conti spike claw with detours to such things as edges, gazzalodis and wet screams along the way.

Gary Fisher 29er

On bridleways and such they're great but I find the front very slippy on man made trails, but that could be a lack of confidence on my part.

Santa Cruz Nomad

Maxis Minions 2.35 Front

Maxis High Roller 2.35 Rear

Riding is local singletrack, Welsh trail centres

Very nice downhill - love the ability to let the back end drift before pulling back. Bit draggy on the flat and uphill but who cares 🙂

Panaracer Fire XC Pros back and front, they would be better in the mud if I hand't stupidly fitted the back one the wrong way.

I normally ride tame XC trails in Herts.

Bike: Stumpjumper fsr
Front tyre: bonty mud x 2.0
Rear tyre: panaracer trailraker 2.1
Type of riding: woodland xc
Your thoughts on said combo: good grip from both ends until they become totally overwhelmed by deep mud, trailraker doesn't handle roots as well as the rear bonty used to, but it lasts much longer!
or other wheelset...
Front tyre: specialized eskar
Rear tyre: specialized eskar
Type of riding: peaks xc
Your thoughts on said combo: good grip on rocks - really confidence inspiring, but poor in muddy fields

Bike: Specialized SX trail I 2008
Front tyre: Specialized Chunder soft dual compound 26x2.3"
Rear tyre: Specialized Chunder soft dual compound 26x2.3"
Type of riding: AM/XC/light DH, ranges from anything like Dalby forest & peak district to Hammstley DH course, etc.
Your thoughts on said Combo: great in every kind of weather, not much grip when your really on the side of the tyres. Very under rated though, great over rocks/roots/piling through mud. Wear pretty well too.

Riding the SDW, xc, very muddy and slippery. Really pleased with the combo considering loads of people said the ignitor was rubbish in anything other than dry hardpack

Same as the rest of the year.

Tubeless 2.3 Conti vertical front
Tubeless 2.3 Bonty revolt rear
Was good on my old 456, haven't ridden the new BMC yet.
Back slides about a bit, but front grips pretty well, no problem for Purbecks and was good at underwater Swinley the other week.

Meta4
Larsen TT eXCeptions front and back

It is early summer in Australia; roll well, light, good if a little slidey although at least predictably so. Should get some mew ones really, getting rounded off and losing some of their bite.

Bike: Alpine 160
Tyres: Maxxis Ardent 2.25 front and back
Type of riding: currently South Wales trail centres, and out and about around Talybont, Brecon and Black Mountains.
Your thoughts on said Combo: love them. I was riding Minions before but these were way too grippy for my Welsh needs. I also tried a pair of Spesh Captains but these sadly gave me one pinch-flat too many. I've been running the Ardents for three weeks now and they inspire confidence on the downs but do not punish on the ups.

I was interested to see that Old Git Surrey up there ^^^ rides a Kona Pine Mountain! 😆

Anyway, tyres....
Front, Maxxis Ignitor 2.1
rear, same but 1.95 on my xc hardtail bike.
For riding round Swinley mainly, they work very well and I'd be happy to buy more of the same. Except maybe a size up cos they is skinny!

Bike: GT idrive5
Tyres: Spec 'the captain' sworks 2bliss 2.2
Type of riding: South downs, Shouthern area, Welsh trail centers The Peaks.
Your thoughts on said Combo: I am running them tublessly and have just left them on all year. I find them to be good on most surfaces but really good on hard pack/rock. Not had any problems with them.

on my mountain bikes - Bonty Jones. Will swap to 1.95 trailrakers when the snow comes.
commuter - Conti dura gatorskins, 23mm
both my Madone and TT bike have conti competitions on the front and Conti home trainers on the back.

all good, that's why I keep using them.

Bike: Indy Fab Steel Deluxe
Front tyre: Maxxis Minion DH Rear 2.5" 60a
Rear tyre: Maxxis Minion DH Front 2.35" 60a
Type of riding: Dry, dusty, rocky
Your thoughts on said combo: You'll notice that I run a rear on the front and a front on the rear - that's only because that's what I could get my hands on at the time. Ideally I'd have a 2.5" Minion DH Front on the front and a 2.35" on the rear. Mind you I'm not really very fussy about tyres...

R: High Roller 2.35 Single Ply 60a - ghetto tublesss

Blue Pig

F: 2.5 Minion DHF Supertacky UST
R: 2.4 Mountain King UST

Local woods and trail centres

The much maligned Mountain King is actually very good on slippery rocks and roots. The Minion is ace but you do suffer the weight penalty if that sort of thing bothers you....

Pace 305
Maxxis ADvantage LUST 25psi F/30psi R
Sherwood Pines yesterday

It was a soup fest yesterday. I think there was probably less than half a mile of dry line in the whole place. I was pleasantly surprised just how well the ADvantage managed. Although I suspect the gloop was so slushy, any tyre would shed it well.

Santa Cruz Blur LT2

Currently Panaracer Trailraker 2.1 F+R for winter
Otherwise Panaracer Rampage 2.35, soft compound on front, standard on back

Riding: natural trails in Scottish highlands - lots of rock and fair amount of mud when wet

Opinion: Trailraker brilliant in current quagmire conditions. For summer was running Cinder 2.25's but swapped to Rampages late summer. Rampages have better grip, more volume and slightly better in mud, but Cinders seem a bit more resistant to pinch flats

Maxxis Advantage 2.1, but still got a Nevegal 2.1 stick-E on the front of the FS.

I've lowered pressures recently to help with lower winter speeds and grip (F28,R32)

No real problems - everything is drifty-tastic whatever tyre ATM, which is quite fun at the lower speeds, terrifying at high speed though!

FRONT: Maxxis High Roller Supertacky on the front 2.35 IIRC
REAR: Bonty Mud X

Both ghetto tubeless.

Riding: Swinley and the Southern Chilterns.

Bike: Orange Five
Front: Kenda Blue Groove 2.35 Stick-E
Rear: Maxxis Advan 60a 2.25
Riding: Most things although a bias on south wales, rocky stuff

Thoughts on combo: Tough and reasonably light relative what they'll let you get away with. Not too fussed what's on the back but I clearly connect with the blue Groove tyre in a way that makes everything else feel crap. If it's seriously horrid mud, I'll ride elsewhere and let the place recover.

Bike:
Singular Swift
Santa Cruz Heckler (old style)
On-one 456

Front tyre:
29er Mountain king 2.4 (tubeless) / 29er Mountain King 2.2 (tubeless)
Maxxis ADvantage 2.25 60a Maxxpro (tubeless) F&R
Kenda Blue Groove Stick-E 2.1 / Kenda Nevegal DTC 2.1 (with tubes)

Type of riding:
Singlespeed all over the place (Mostly Hexhamshire common, Co. Durham, Chopwell woods)
Long, bumpy and angry stuff (Trail centres, Cheviots, Lakes, peaks, etc)
Short blasts on hilly stuff (Hexhamshire common)

Thoughts on said combo:
Good on soft terrain but come up narrow, crap with tubes, great without
Good all rounders, poor in clarty mud, fast rolling, carcass can be a bit fragile given the confidence they give you to get into trouble
Pinch flat-tastic if run at pressures where the tyre tread make sense, but light and grippy providing it isn't muddy.

Nomad
Front- Kenda Nevegal 2.35 Stick E
Rear- Maxxis Larsen TT 2.35 MaxxPro 60a
Riding- Natural forest singletrack trails that drain very well.
The Larsen isn't as bad in the mud as people make out, its certainly very entertaining when the going gets slippery and you can get all drifty on almost every corner, hours of fun.

iO SS - maxxis medusa 1.8 f/r.
riding - sloppy and rooty cotswolds or chilterns trails
ace in the wet, not great ion roots but ok, overall - rated

Altitude 120mm trail HT - Rubber Queen 2.2 f/r
general use bike - not used at mo locally but the tyres are great on all but mud

Flyer SS road - ultragators 25c - the only road tyre you need really.

Bike: OrangeP7
Front tyre: Maxxis High Roller 2.35 Maxpro
Rear tyre: Maxxis Advantage 2.25 Maxpro
Type of riding: Just riding along, singletrack, the odd trail centre, that kind of thing
Your thoughts on said combo: Very good for most things and about as good a combo as I’ve used, a bit lively in the mud though.

Inbred

Front tyre: Kenda Nevegal 2.1

Rear tyre: Kenda Blue Groove 2.1

Type of riding: White peak cheeky stuff / Dark peak grit

Your thoughts on said combo: Work well in anything but deep mud. Pretty draggy on the road, superb grip on rocky climbs.
