I'm needing to replace the chainring on a Salsa Spearfish, which has 'Superboost 157' spacing. It's a SRAM/Truvativ Dub crankset supplied with a 3mm offset 32T chainring. I built it up from a frame, which at the time, was sold by Salsa with the chainset.
I realise one answer is replace what's there, i.e. a 3mm offset ring, but I suspect the frame came with that due to lack of other options.
Salsa state "SuperBoost-157 55–57mm chainline only, 1x: 32t max"
Should/can I replace with a 0mm offset oval 32T ring, or will that trigger my life insurance/cause my knees to implode?
Shouldn't all superboost spaced frames run 0mm off set rings, if 142mm should be 6mm and 'boost' is 3mm??

Toby at Ace Bicycles is running a zero-offset chainring (on Cane Creek ee-wings) on the Pivot Switchblade he's riding and told me the chainline is bang on. And he knows his stuff.

So, in case anyone stumbles across this, the Spearfish needs 3mm offset - the 0mm gave a 60mm chainline.
