Hey Up Guys

Stu @ Dales Bike Centre here..

Great that your getting organised for a big day out in Swaledale the riding here is ace. Can you do me a favour and I know I don't need to say it but can you make sure you shut gates after you. I've had local farmer and friend of mine in today complaining that mountain bikers have left a gate open twice in the last week. Whats the big deal in that? His sheep then get into his neighbours flock, ewe's and lambs mixed up meaning 2-3 hours work to sort out. Farmers round here loose their sense of humour after 4 - 5 weeks of lambing sheep day and night.

Sounds like it was a classic first to the gate opens it sets off, last man trying to catch up leaves gate open.

The great decent off Fremington Edge down to Langthwaite, there's a gate into a steep grassy descent with a couple of switchbacks down to a house (Storthwaite Hall) and another gate. These two gates were the ones left open.

Have a great day the trails are in great condition at the moment not that I'm seeing much of them. If you do want to call in to the new bike centre we've opened you'll get a warm welcome.

Cheers

Stu

Cheers fellas, Much appreciated.

Now we are open any mountain bike issue's good or bad in the valley are landing on our door which in lots of ways is good, we can hopefully improve it for everyone.

Like I say you're more than welcome here, coffee, cake, bike wash, shower, repairs and spares..... Sorry for blatant plug

We've got the Trek demo fleet here this weekend if anyone's keen to have a look/demo of full suspension and/or road bike.

Have a good'un

Well, we (me, gavgas and Anne) have just spent an hour or more eating fab fruit cake and Wensleydale cheese, drinking great coffee and having a good long bikey chat with Nicola at the Dales centre. It really is a cracking setup there and we can't wait to get over for a weekend and stay in the bunkhouse. (Really, after the quality of food available in the cafe I just can't wait to try the breakfast!!!)

Great to met everyone and of course the riding from there is superb. Thanks to Nicola for some local knowledge too, which we programmed into our SatGav 😉

We'll be back 🙂

Great this sounds like good idea

meet in the carpark in Reeth get togged up and freewheel down the road
to fremmington for the first rest of the day Coffee and Cake .
Thats the first mile done 😀
Then a quick spin up the Edge to bask in the glorious morning sunshine to take in the view .
a bit of a nice cruise to the quarry decent which IIRC comes out at a pub which also does nice coffee .

not sure where Deejays planning to go next but it must be up 😆

Really looking forward to this ride. My leg sorted itself out after a couple of days and the new bits I put on my bike (and my legs) didn't explode at Hamsterley yesterday 🙂

Can recommend the coffee at the Dales Bike Centre but would especially suggest that the the ham and Wensleydale cheese sandwiches are fantastic.
Careful with Stu's fancy new grey water bike wash, it's his pride and joy.

hp.. it`s that and a bit more for scotabroad and I.

There isnt enough space for many cars at the shop/cafe so advise not parking there.

What time does Dales cafe open and should we all meet there for a first intro over coffee and cake

The square in Reeth will be heaving methinks, was last time I was there. £1 to park on the green btw.

Presuming someone has a plan? I have 3 route cards from old mags if routemaster wants them scanned and mailed?

Hey Up folks, can't believe the length of this thread pleased there's so much interest in Swaledale

Dales Bike Centre opens at about 9am, just as soon as we've finished serving breakfast to those staying.

Re: parking - we've haven't much, we did want a bigger area but the National Park planning dept pinned us right back. If there is going to be so many of you I could organise parking in a field next to us on the road side to save blocking up Reeth. Let me know if that's something you'd like me to do. £1 per motor donation to landowner (not me!) would smooth that out

If you want some route advise give me a shout, but the classic up Fremington Edge - Hurst - langthwaite - Pinseat - Gunnerside Ghyll - Low Lane back to us is a pretty damn good.

Hope the sun shines as much as it did last weekend 8)

Stu @ Dales Bike Centre

Stu - have you any room to accommodate me and MrsMM on the Saturday night please?
Just an enquiry for now - it a decision as to wether we drive up after she has helped out at the village fete or take an early dart from home. The comments ref your place (esp. re. food 😀 ) suggest to me that we make the trip the night before...... 😀

Ref the route - no ideas but, having seen a map of the locality at weekend, how blessed is the area with bridleways - more that its fair share, that's for sure 😉

Stu

Car parking idea sounds great - and spot on for tea and cakes to finish. I will start a 'roll-call' thread next week and include the new parking area - of course that means even less of a warm up before we assault Fremington!

Even from Reeth green, it's not much of a warm-up. I don't think there's a long enough warm up anywhere for Fremington Edge!

MMM theres nothing like the jelly leg feeling of out the car into a big climb .
Good idea for the parking if you can swing it Stu .

on a side who gets the biggest bit of cake for the furthest traveled to get there.

What we need is a STW ride flag to stick up.

Danny, here's a map of a similarish route: *MAP*. Fremington Edge looks intimidating, but it only takes about 20 minutes to get up even if you have to push (like me)

Simon, I dont actually have that email account anymore - it was one of the many I'd set up shortly after the hack deciding that I prob shouldn't have my main address hanging about on forums. I've since rationalised the ammount of them I have down to two - if you could just bounce me something over on yoshimi176 at googlemail dot com, that would be great. Cheers pal

Deejay please where can I see the route you have planned for this expedition . due to my fatness levels and fitness levels being out of sync I just want to check on the bailout options for when my legs give out.

Trout.. have you got memory map ?

Deejay's in the peak today, but I can send you a copy of the route if you have MM.

Any chance you can bring one of your lights with you. I was most impressed with Junkyards Troutlight last night and I wouldnt mind stroking the 6 light one lovingly.

What percentage do I get as your lancashire agent then Mr Trout?
Think of the sales if I had a new version for marketting purposes.

cheers ton, though the route from here suggests I should pick you on the way through... if you could loiter around the M62 / M1 / A1 interchange with your bike and your thumb out it would make you easier to find..... 😆

Looking like a few showers forcast for sunday according to the beeb
the eternal pessimist in me didnt think the cracking weather would last

The offer of a lift for a couple of bikes and riders from the keighley / skipton area still stands if anyones stuck
And if this is the official role call then we will be 2 riders.
