Rusty if I say whether I'm home or not, can we come to an arrangement ref "the footage?" 😉

Great day, thanks to you and drp for organising that. Fab bike ride, nice to do the franks tank descent finally, and I like that extra long descent to corfe. And it seemed to me that the group, though pretty big, actually worked really well in terms of staying together, and not needing to split into 2.

Many thanks to DrP and Rusty Trowel for organising this, together with such brilliant weather. 😀

Most of the trails were in excellent condition, few bits of mud that the organisors forget to do something about!

Nice to meet so many new faces, particularly those on their first ever STW Forum Ride! Nothing to worry about was it? 😉

Only one pub stop this time ... are we getting soft?

A wee reminder for the Winchester (New Alresford) ride on Saturday 8th May with a "surprise" at the end. More info here:

A big thank you for all those who turned out despite the foul weather 😉 (although it IS actually pi$$ing it down this morning!).

It seemed you all enjoyed yourselves - apologies about the 4 spatters of mud we seemed to cross.....!

Here's some of the best pics from the event:

Can I say a BIG 'Thank you' to Ian and Steve for organising a fabulous day in the Purbecks. Never having ridden there before its so much easier when you have locals to show you the best trails in the area.
My new legs were working well , although there did seem to be 25 miles of climbing in a 30 mile loop. Its certainly hilly , and those rocks. We dont have rocks in Hampshire , a total surprise .
Very few mechanicals in a huge group ( C.40 at the start) 3 punctures, 1 chain snappage and rear mech issues.
shouting Turn, Turn! TURN!! at a rider in front has to be one of the highlights of the ride, plus the 2 lads with their saddles too low, who could manual and descend at daredevil speed, very impressive.
Good to meet some new faces and some familiar ones. Sorry we had to rush off but dinner courtesy of Mrs DezB was waiting.
Rob

nice sequence 😉

Mr & Mrs P would like to echo the sentiments of all above, a really great day out and totally enjoyed! Thanks very much to all the organisers, you did a great job, rock on 8)

Thank particularily (for us) to Mark (Mmb I think?) who helped us out after the ride as we tried to find a place to stay in Poole, plus reattaching my LH crank arm after it mysteriously decided to fall off (after 50km+ of riding??).

Till the next time chaps 🙂

Clown bike . nuf said.
Actually it looks like it could have been a nasty spill, and landing straight legged potentially very damaging.
Steve , its those flapjacks , I fill them up with EPO! I found yours afterwards in my camalbak ,sorry. Thanks for the Go drink, just the ticket and very welcome. I think puttin in some tarmac miles on a road bike with a 1up on the back makes a big difference.
anna , just pulling your leg re the new build..

Did you find somewhere nice to stay? and ride today?

Stayed at an OK B&B/hotel in Bournemouth, haggled them down to £50 for the night, which was fine. Didn't go for a ride today, something wrong with my LH crank arm, it keeps loosening and slipping off 🙁 So we spent the day wandering around the town and beach, was nice. Walked all the way to Poole to get Fish & Chips again from TJ's (I think it's called?) only to find it was shut! Most disappointing after a long walk; I ask you, who closes a Fish & Chip shop on a Sunday?? 😡

Well, big respect to Anna for riding a 29er and joining the other niche riders. 🙂

Good pics there guys but got a bit worried when I saw Dez very close to the cliff edge. 😯

psychle - glad you and Mrs p got sorted, hope your weekend went well in the English countryside!

Apologies to Rusty, Mr Poddy and Ghengis for the fright I gave you when ragging down that descent! I loved it. 8)

Saturday was obviously the day to be on the Purbecks. 😀

This is I 8) Mincing down that scary descent on my big bike 😳 But look at that skilful one-finger braking eh? 😉

[img] [/img]

My excuse is that I had no contacts and could only see around 10m ahead clearly! Plus you'll note I have no gloves on and my ickle hands were getting all sore like 😆

Bow-Ti will be ready for the next ride, I promise 🙂

Whoever the lovely young lady was whose puncture i fixed. It will be worth, if you haven't already done it, deflating the tyre and rotating it so the valve is better aligned with the hole in the rim, its a few mm out . They are more likely to rip out if not sitting square.
Sorry , I didn't get your name

Who was the chap on the Cannondale Prophet (coil shock)? He was quite handy with the old trials skillz 🙂 And the chap who rode the Spooky Band Wagon around all day (with practically no seatpost and his knees up in his armpits!), nice bloody job, chapeau!

Great photo's one and all & I'm pleased to see that most of the ones featuring moi are of my back which is arguably (no definately) my best side! P.S I forgot to apologise yesterday to everybody for the ear battering you all recieved from my shrieky brakes, don't worry I've ordered new pads today 🙂

That was Chris on the Prophet and Alex on the Spooky. Alex's other bike choice is a 45lb DH bike that I've seen him pedal (mostly) round Afan on a 38t ring 😯

Agree that they are both irritating talented 🙂 I hope in vain that I might learn something from them, I suppose I crash a bit less frequently these days but I still can't fricken wheelie 🙁

@singletrackmind - thank you so much for fixing my puncture! And for the advice above - am on the case. I must have got another slow puncture on the rear wheel as when I got my bike out of the car in the morning it was flat... So got some mending to do!

@DrP - yep i did come over on my own, and thanks to everyone for making me feel so welcome! Was a bit nervewracking to start with but i really enjoyed the day 🙂

What an incredibly handsome, and clearly talented Riding God. You wouldn't happen to have any other skills too, would you? Ooh, I dunno, say possibly in the food and drinks industry??

Our very own (adopted) Southern Shandy Drinking photographer has done another mighty fine job, well done Pete. 😀

Hi
Going to do this route soon. Does anyone have a GPX or any other gps file I can have?
I'm pants at reading maps!

Is it me or do Annabanana's forks look a bit soft? I know theres a step/drop there, but it seems a bit small for complete compression. If they were up in their travel a bit more, she might not have gone over like that.

Yes indeed I couldt make it either and would like a gpx if that's possible. As there's a few of us after one might be an idea for one of us to load one up to bikely or similar , assuming we can have one of course. Failing that I'll blame it on colin if we get lost this Saturday ( hi col!)

cheers (dan)

I think Annas main problem was lack of speed. She was at walking pace when it happened. I'll put the video up if i can work out how to.

Please don't! Seriously.

Have e-mailed you to ask for a link to the footage or the file if poss, but hotmail has crashed, not sure if you got it.

I want to see what I did wrong, but some things need to remain private, Rusty Trowel......

Yep, it's bad form to take a video of a girl and then post it on the internet for everyone to critique... so I'm told... 😉

well, if they're that compressed over that bump and walking speed, they must be on the soft side, no?
