Rusty if I say whether I'm home or not, can we come to an arrangement ref "the footage?" 😉
Great day, thanks to you and drp for organising that. Fab bike ride, nice to do the franks tank descent finally, and I like that extra long descent to corfe. And it seemed to me that the group, though pretty big, actually worked really well in terms of staying together, and not needing to split into 2.
hey dudes i'm back, just having tea and waiting for flickr to upload some pics which i'll post later. that was great ride and thanks from me and my local crew goes out to drP and rusty trowel for the efforts in organising a classic, well done guys see you soon!.
Thanks everyone for great company and trails.
See you again!
I confess to being a tad pooped !Great ride as usual thanks to Dr P and Rusty for gathering the clan .Suppose it's a bit early to organise my birthday ride for November ! 😆
Seriously hope you all have a great summer and the weather is nice and kind .See you in the fall . 🙄
Many thanks to DrP and Rusty Trowel for organising this, together with such brilliant weather. 😀
Most of the trails were in excellent condition, few bits of mud that the organisors forget to do something about!
Nice to meet so many new faces, particularly those on their first ever STW Forum Ride! Nothing to worry about was it? 😉
Only one pub stop this time ... are we getting soft?
A wee reminder for the Winchester (New Alresford) ride on Saturday 8th May with a "surprise" at the end. More info here:
Hello all. I too must express my thanks to DrP & Rusty for organising, it was a top day. Good to finally meet some STW 'faces', hope to see you all again soon.
lexiekay - can you contact me please, e-mail in profile.
Thanks from me too, Rusty and DrP. Good ride, good company, good weather. What more could you want.
'what more could you want' - my gears not too balls up 10 miles from home and a shorter queue in the pub 🙂
Big thanks to DrP & RT for organising today's ride and good to meet all the peeps off here.
Ooooooh, you'll get a slap for that Rusty. 😉
A big thank you for all those who turned out despite the foul weather 😉 (although it IS actually pi$$ing it down this morning!).
It seemed you all enjoyed yourselves - apologies about the 4 spatters of mud we seemed to cross.....!
Here's some of the best pics from the event:

Can I say a BIG 'Thank you' to Ian and Steve for organising a fabulous day in the Purbecks. Never having ridden there before its so much easier when you have locals to show you the best trails in the area.
My new legs were working well , although there did seem to be 25 miles of climbing in a 30 mile loop. Its certainly hilly , and those rocks. We dont have rocks in Hampshire , a total surprise .
Very few mechanicals in a huge group ( C.40 at the start) 3 punctures, 1 chain snappage and rear mech issues.
shouting Turn, Turn! TURN!! at a rider in front has to be one of the highlights of the ride, plus the 2 lads with their saddles too low, who could manual and descend at daredevil speed, very impressive.
Good to meet some new faces and some familiar ones. Sorry we had to rush off but dinner courtesy of Mrs DezB was waiting.
Rob
Just wanted to say a big 'thank you' for the ride yesterday - it was brilliant! Lovely to meet some of the STW regulars too! I will hopefully be coming along on another one soon...
Lexikay - If I recall you were on the white inbred with the 'free brakes'?! Thanks you for coming along, as I understand you made it here on your own?

the weather was great. company was too!

Can only echo the big thanks to the arrangers, all who turned up making it a totally fab day and of course, the weather. Can't remember the last ride I had in such glorious weather.

Would like to echo the sentiments of those
who have commented on a superb ride in the
sun yesterday.Would like to thank the good
doctor and his sidekick rusty t for guiding
duties, my 1st ride with you guys and girls.
Thanks to all for great company ,especially
the two dave's! and to singletrackmind for
the good advice in the little matter of turn
right!
Cheers the germinator
The Germinator, what were you riding? i couldn't work out which one was you.
Just got back from a very wet, muddy and cold Glyncorrwg, what a difference a day makes! Had a great time yesterday so thanks DrP, Rusty and everyone that turned up. I do luuurve the Purbecks.
Same sentiments as everyone else. Thank you all for making it a top ride. A very enjoyable day. 😀 Singletrackmind, What did you eat before the ride? You were flying up the hills!!
Rusty, a thing thank you from me and Mrs MM for your hospitality this weekend.
Anna, the video of you crashing is hilarious. 😉 Glad you weren't hurt.
Rusty trowel, was on the cove hummer,
have to return the favour and invite
you all down to devon for some classic
east dartmoor riding
Anna, the video of you crashing is hilarious
Oh good! 😉
Rusty T, any chance of seeing this? I go OTB with such regularity (even when I'm trying to keep my weight back) it may help me to figure out what I'm doing wrong, plus....I heard it's funny.... e-mail in profile...!
Looks rubbish.
I didn't want to come anyway.
Sniff.

Youtube? 😉 The photo competes well with Marks "foot and upside down wheel" effort from last year. Bambi on ice anyone 🙂

nice sequence 😉
Mr & Mrs P would like to echo the sentiments of all above, a really great day out and totally enjoyed! Thanks very much to all the organisers, you did a great job, rock on 8)
Thank particularily (for us) to Mark (Mmb I think?) who helped us out after the ride as we tried to find a place to stay in Poole, plus reattaching my LH crank arm after it mysteriously decided to fall off (after 50km+ of riding??).
Till the next time chaps 🙂
Did you find somewhere nice to stay? and ride today?

Clown bike . nuf said.
Actually it looks like it could have been a nasty spill, and landing straight legged potentially very damaging.
Steve , its those flapjacks , I fill them up with EPO! I found yours afterwards in my camalbak ,sorry. Thanks for the Go drink, just the ticket and very welcome. I think puttin in some tarmac miles on a road bike with a 1up on the back makes a big difference.
anna , just pulling your leg re the new build..
Did you find somewhere nice to stay? and ride today?
Stayed at an OK B&B/hotel in Bournemouth, haggled them down to £50 for the night, which was fine. Didn't go for a ride today, something wrong with my LH crank arm, it keeps loosening and slipping off 🙁 So we spent the day wandering around the town and beach, was nice. Walked all the way to Poole to get Fish & Chips again from TJ's (I think it's called?) only to find it was shut! Most disappointing after a long walk; I ask you, who closes a Fish & Chip shop on a Sunday?? 😡
singletrackmind = roadie 😉
Great pics Steve.
Slight disappointment that psycle wasn't on the BowTi, so I didn't know it was him 🙂
Well, big respect to Anna for riding a 29er and joining the other niche riders. 🙂
Good pics there guys but got a bit worried when I saw Dez very close to the cliff edge. 😯
psychle - glad you and Mrs p got sorted, hope your weekend went well in the English countryside!
Apologies to Rusty, Mr Poddy and Ghengis for the fright I gave you when ragging down that descent! I loved it. 8)
Saturday was obviously the day to be on the Purbecks. 😀
Slight disappointment that psycle wasn't on the BowTi, so I didn't know it was him 🙂
This is I 8) Mincing down that scary descent on my big bike 😳 But look at that skilful one-finger braking eh? 😉
My excuse is that I had no contacts and could only see around 10m ahead clearly! Plus you'll note I have no gloves on and my ickle hands were getting all sore like 😆
Bow-Ti will be ready for the next ride, I promise 🙂
Oh yes, respect to the youngsters (one on the jumpy bike) doing H U G E wheelies on tarmac. 8)
Whoever the lovely young lady was whose puncture i fixed. It will be worth, if you haven't already done it, deflating the tyre and rotating it so the valve is better aligned with the hole in the rim, its a few mm out . They are more likely to rip out if not sitting square.
Sorry , I didn't get your name
Rob * puncture repairer extraordinaire
Oh yes, respect to the youngsters (one on the jumpy bike) doing H U G E wheelies on tarmac.
Who was the chap on the Cannondale Prophet (coil shock)? He was quite handy with the old trials skillz 🙂 And the chap who rode the Spooky Band Wagon around all day (with practically no seatpost and his knees up in his armpits!), nice bloody job, chapeau!
Great photo's one and all & I'm pleased to see that most of the ones featuring moi are of my back which is arguably (no definately) my best side! P.S I forgot to apologise yesterday to everybody for the ear battering you all recieved from my shrieky brakes, don't worry I've ordered new pads today 🙂
That was Chris on the Prophet and Alex on the Spooky. Alex's other bike choice is a 45lb DH bike that I've seen him pedal (mostly) round Afan on a 38t ring 😯
Agree that they are both irritating talented 🙂 I hope in vain that I might learn something from them, I suppose I crash a bit less frequently these days but I still can't fricken wheelie 🙁
Ahh. Yes. Wonderful day! 🙂 It's ALWAYS sunny in the 'Becks isn't it? Well it is when I go 😉
Again, thenks to DrP and Rusty for a super spiffing day in the countryside. 😀
Pics are done, camera survived being thrown down the road at 15mph too....

Was Kirsty doing a promo for a new fitness Dvd at the pub ?Now stretch and feel the burn ! 😀
Anyone a bit apprehensive about joining an STW ride should take a look at theses pics .Fun fun fun !

Isn't there a picture of him avoiding the watersplash by using the BRIDGE ??!! "Stunt monkey" indeed!
So annoyed I couldn't make it!
Great pics Peter. Glad your camera survived its crash - that was quite dramatic!
Isn't there a picture of him avoiding the watersplash by using the BRIDGE ??!! "Stunt monkey" indeed!
He doesn't like getting dirty. Image to keep up and all that.... 🙂
There's a couple of good ones of you somewhere....
Anna - Thanks for the bread! I had it with my tea last night. 😀 Om nom nom!
Isn't there a picture of him avoiding the watersplash by using the BRIDGE ??!! "Stunt monkey" indeed!
I was only worried about getting Petes car seats dirty on the way home, honest!
You're welcome Pete, thanks for the help that warranted the bread! 🙂
aNYWAY. I think you brought the right bike this time Gaz... 😉
Did anybody happen to take a gps trace that they could send to me?
Due to family stuff I wasn't free on Saturday but would be keen to have a go around the route you guys did.
Cheers
Missed out on the ride, but went camping in that part of the world with the missus instead, think we passed you in the midget heading West allong the main road form Swanage to Corfe?
Map is at beginning of this thread 🙂
I think DrP will have a gps of it. He kept going beep.
For thsoe in the know, I'll be organising a ride up my way in the Summer. July time I'm thinking. I won't be posting it on here, it'll be invite only because we start and finish (Probably with BBQ) at my house and I can't deal with/feed nearly 40 people, sorry!
Anybody who's interested drop me an email though 🙂

Yep, I remember seeing your car (green one, right?)! I actually did think to myself 'I wonder if that's that chap off STW with the MG?' cool car 8)
Indeedy, dark green with rubber bumpers and a particularly noisy exhaust 8)
PeterPoddy wrote.. "Was it really THAT steep???"
Nah, but it looks good in the pic tho !! 😆
'twas a bl**dy sight steeper climbing back up and around it !
Thanx for a cracking day guys.. and for booking the "purrfick wevvur"
Shame about the dust tho.. 😉
And 29'ers are NOT clowns bikes..X
And 29'ers are NOT clowns bikes..X
And I suppose you think that's some Haribo in the bank for next time?
Poddy: you are photomeister!
Very good photo's PP.
I can even see daylight underneath my front wheel in one of them , about 1" worth mind.
Wow, loads of great photo's there, captures the day really well. Thanks again to the organisers and to thanks everyone that come along. Long may the dusty trails and fine weather continue.
@singletrackmind - thank you so much for fixing my puncture! And for the advice above - am on the case. I must have got another slow puncture on the rear wheel as when I got my bike out of the car in the morning it was flat... So got some mending to do!
@DrP - yep i did come over on my own, and thanks to everyone for making me feel so welcome! Was a bit nervewracking to start with but i really enjoyed the day 🙂
Our very own (adopted) Southern Shandy Drinking photographer has done another mighty fine job, well done Pete. 😀

Need any help? I know a man who is great at fixing punctures 😉
You wouldn't happen to have any other skills too, would you? Ooh, I dunno, say possibly in the food and drinks industry??

Hi
Going to do this route soon. Does anyone have a GPX or any other gps file I can have?
I'm pants at reading maps!
Col
Is it me or do Annabanana's forks look a bit soft? I know theres a step/drop there, but it seems a bit small for complete compression. If they were up in their travel a bit more, she might not have gone over like that.
Yes indeed I couldt make it either and would like a gpx if that's possible. As there's a few of us after one might be an idea for one of us to load one up to bikely or similar , assuming we can have one of course. Failing that I'll blame it on colin if we get lost this Saturday ( hi col!)
cheers (dan)
Route uploaded to bikely here!
Lovely pics there PP!
DrP
Thanks DrP, much appreciated
I think Annas main problem was lack of speed. She was at walking pace when it happened. I'll put the video up if i can work out how to.
Thanks Dan! See you Saturday.
And thanks to DrP for the route.
Col
I'll put the video up if i can work out how to.
Please don't! Seriously.
Have e-mailed you to ask for a link to the footage or the file if poss, but hotmail has crashed, not sure if you got it.
I want to see what I did wrong, but some things need to remain private, Rusty Trowel......
Ta.
I want to see what I did wrong, but some things need to remain private, Rusty Trowel......
Yep, it's bad form to take a video of a girl and then post it on the internet for everyone to critique... so I'm told... 😉
well, if they're that compressed over that bump and walking speed, they must be on the soft side, no?
Thanks Dr P much appreciated.
And aye, see you Saturday Col .
