Maybe if it was a proper length ride. Maybe I could just ride to Otterburn as a warm up.

I'll keep my eye on the thread and could possibly offer a guided tour of the Northern rock cyclone route if anyone is interested, 104 miles though probably only a similar amount of climbing.

Date's not definite, can be adjusted (Sustrans C2C in a day at the end of May for me so I can't do then).

jonb, if you're passing Morpeth on your way up there give me a shout and I'll ride up with you, that should make it a proper ride ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'm just waiting to firm up holiday dates so should know fairly soon, but mid - late May might be a better option for me. Happy for a longer route if that suits better, especially as its a bit of a drive for me to get there.

TJ, didn't know you had a road bike?

8th is the latest for me otherwise it's into June. Any earlier and I don't think my legs will be cooked ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Can start in Morpeth if people want longer.............. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

That's going to put it at 100 miles and then some.

Will the snow have melted by then? and if so, will they have tarmac'd the horse tracks?

If not, we're having one down here in the sun ๐Ÿ˜‰

Morpeth could be a go-er then. Train station too, might be a bit easier to get to than Otterburn for some people?

Return to Morpeth from Bellingham via Vomit Climb, Sweethope Loughs etc

Cafe stop?? stopping is for wimps ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Actually yes, there will be a cafe stop....................somewhere ๐Ÿ˜ณ !

Still to work that one out. Kielder Castle has a little cafe.

Anyone got any ideas for where to have a cafe stop? Bellingham's a possibility (there's a little cafe in the library? I think). Although we may have to stop before there, we don't want to waste good money losing it on Vomit Climb now do we?

Get a decent Northumberland mtb ride and I'm in. None of that Lycra stuff for me.

You assume correctly I take it they are not a misspelt warm blooded animal?

JUnkyard - if it was offroad I would come out to play. I thought this was an MTB site.

It is reduceable.

Those that don't want to set off from Morpeth we can arrange to meet at Otterburn. On the return leg simply turn off at Bellingham and head back to Otterburn (up your own little Vomit Climb ๐Ÿ˜ˆ )

You always get one don't you - "Maybe if it was a proper length ride." - numpty.

If I have a job by then and earning enough I will be up for doing this. I'll bookmark the thread so I can keep an eye on what develops.

Cheers

Right, there will be a choice of 2 routes on the day.

ROUTE 1

Otterburn - Carter Bar - Chesters - (nearly to) Bonchester Bridge - Saughtree - Kielder - Bellingham - Otterburn

Distance: 106.62km (just over 66 miles)

Climbing: 2500m

OR

ROUTE 2

Morpeth - Elsdon - Otterburn - Carter Bar - Chesters - (nearly to) Bonchester Bridge - Saughtree - Kielder - Bellingham - Redesmouth - stop to throw up at the top - Sweethope Lough - Knowsgate - Cambo - Morpeth

Distance: in excess of 100 miles

Climbing: Don't ask.................. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Riders setting off from Morpeth will meet those (if any!) who are setting off from Otterburn.

All that needs to be decided is:

(a) Date (1st or 8th May)
(b) Where to stop for cafe break (!)
(c) Someone to lead the route from Morpeth to Otterburn as I'll be on my own ๐Ÿ™ or someone that knows how to get back to Otterburn from Bellingham (should be easy enough to self navigate)

8th May is the Fred Whitton if that influences the possible date.

Ah, that's a stroll in the park compared to this route............. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

This is a real [s]struggle[/s] challenge ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

(or it will be to get round before it gets dark ๐Ÿ˜ณ )
