If I install a narrower front tyre (2.4-2.5 rather than 2.6) will it have a smaller diameter?

I've bought a front mudguard and it's catching on the tyre tread. However the fork is a 6 year old Rockshox Pike, and the tyre is a DHR WT 2.6. I'm pretty sure that that model of Pike was only rated up to 2.5.

The fork still works ok, although is pretty knackered (brake hose retainer pulled out and replaced with amalgamating tape and zipties), I don't want to replace itย yet.

I've got an old cut down mudguard that sort of works and doesn't impinge, but I was hoping to fit a newer one with better coverage for winter riding. If a smaller front tyre will work, then I'll make do until the current one wears out and replace at that point.

Yes, probably, a bit, it depends a bit on how precise the measurements are and the tyre profile/tread/knobbles design. And how much mud will clog it up.

Depends on the brand IME. Some have a lower profile than others.
