Thanks @jameso

Great bike for the price BTW. At the time nothing else came close in terms of price and quality.

While you're here @jameso (sorry)... been meaning to ask you whether I'd be able to find replacement end caps for the rear hub (QR) on my 2016 Arkose 4. They have a hex socket for fitting. One side has cracked. Thanks!

@thenorthwind Alex Rims may be able to help you?

@thenorthwind It was a KT QL-2UBR hub, quite a few brands used it so it might be possible to find end caps via spares lists? I think Halo used a few of their hubs at the time so they/Ison might be worth a try. If not a local machinist could do something I reckon.

Cheers, I'll see what that turns up. It's been a good hub, so either be a shame to right it off because of the end caps. This is the first time I've felt the need to replace the bearings - and they've still got life in them, I was just checking the size to order them ready. Their longevity had been their downfall though: three end caps have been in place so long they'd practically seized on.

Thanks a lot.

Good luck..

They were good hubs, I bought one of the other KTs as a Halo hub from Ison and got years of good use from it. It's headed for my MTB next.

Where have you ended up Jameso? Was at Evans for years but jumped ship to Balfes a while ago after the Frasers group fun. Always liked the pinnacles as easy to sell. Regret not buying an arkose while I was there.

Just been doing some pretty serious offroad on my '17 Arkose 4 this morning whilst overseas with work. Amazed at what that bike will handle! Think tomorrow might see me sniff around some gap jumps...

It's on 650b wheels with 42mm tyres and is proving to be a blast! Super-versatile bike!

By January I’ll have had my Arkose for 5 years. Thousands of km in all conditions over very mixed terrain - it’s been a marvel.
I recently replaced a few bearings and the front rotor, and that’s all that I’ve had to do apart from routine stuff.

one of the best bikes I’ve ever had, and certainly the best value for money…

… apart from Jameso’s inexplicable decision to put a QR on the back wheel and a thru-axle on the front. How am I supposed to upgrade the wheels with that set-up? What were you thinking Jameso?

Yeah, that's my only (slight) beef with it too.

@kramer, yes although I've put some slightly flared ones on.

What were you thinking Jameso?

I was thinking that thru-axles on the rear of a gravel bike were fairly pointless and most hubs were becoming convertible anyway?

I find thru axles slightly easier to fit than QR. Not a deal breaker, but my one suggestion for a slight improvement on an already excellent bike.

Yeah I'd agree with that. I think I was the year after that we had a new TA/QR convertible dropout. It was quite neat, internal route for cables or Di2.

@akira You're with good company there. I'm at Madison / Sportline now. A couple of other places before that / after Evans - been a weird few years in the bike trade.

Amazed at what that bike will handle! Think tomorrow might see me sniff around some gap jumps…

I'm not sure whether to be happy or worried : )

I experienced working on many Arkose’s and there were many happy customers. As for Madison- an exemplary company to work with, the “with”  is the key that others could learn from!

@wheelsonfire

Thanks..

Madison's good, I was there for 9(?)yrs to 2011. Great to hear that. Hopefully IBDs we work with will forgive my stint at Evans!

Just to put @jameso at ease, the gaps were way too big but there were some decent jumps and drops that the arkose handled well.
