as in other post, ritchey wcs series rims.brand new, never been sraightened (till now).on removing tyre and rim tape the nipples are nearly all rounded out in the slot on the end.some are so bad there is no slot left at all!
would these have been man made and do you reckon its to be expected or should i try and ask for a new wheel?
by man made i meant trued by a person rather than machine?
Are they just normal nipples? If so why would the 'slot' in the top be mangled, that's not the easy way to true them.
Why did brand new wheels have tyres/rim tape on? If they look properly mullered and they're actually brand new I wouldn't accept them.
I wonder if machine made wheels use the end slots for tightening and the machine in question was having an off day?
You don't need to use the slots so there's nothing wrong with the wheel...except that it needs trued very quickly (unless you've been hammering it) and these facts may imply it was badly built (which can of course be rectum-fried without replacement)
This damage is caused by the wheel building machine, the machine is used for speed and then they will have the finnishing true done by hand, and no this slot is not used for truing only for assembly you true with the flats on the nipple with a spoke key or if they are hidden ie inside a carbon rim then the wheels are usually built with spoke nipples with nutted heads then you use a nut driver inside the rim.
oh ok.alls well that ends well
