Steel / Alu MTB frame / 27.5 plus / 100mm forks - ideas?

Hi all,

Got all the parts to build up a 27.5 plus bike with some Rebas 100mm travel and either 2x10 (or can botch it into a 1x10). The Sonder Frontier fits the bill but at 300 quid for the frame it's a little outside my budget. Any other options to look out for on eBay, etc?

Thanks,
FM.

Keep an eye out for a discounted frame from the Sonder outlet store on eBay. A couple of months ago I picked up a Frontier from them for £150 as it had a small paint chip on the head tube. No bidding required as BIN price.

Edit: Alpkit outlet

Try and find an old Genesis High Latitude 29er, they can take 27.5" Plus and are built around a 29" x 100mm fork.

I ran my much beloved old green one (AKA The High Fattitude') with 27.5 x 3"s for a while, it was a right giggle.

There are loads of them out there and they probably got for sensible money 2nd hand.

Any more options? Not been able to source a latitude or cheap frontier.

Ragley Marley frames for £200 on CRC.
Designed for a 120/130 fork I think, but with a big front tyre you'd be not far out.
They say 2.6 tyre on the back, but a 2.8 fits easily.

I am after something similar but it needs to be quite nippy. Last MTB I rode a lot was my 26" Genesis IO ss which was great. Having ridden a couple of modern, admittedly full suss 29ers, I was most unimpressed with how slow handling they were.
Perhaps I should buy a 26er again but I am relucutant to pay for a waste of money. What would STW suggest?

I’ve just built up a Planet X Jack Flash 29 frame that cost £79 with 120mm forks and 27.5x2.8 wheels. Feels great to ride and the price can’t be beat.

Will the world end if I stick on 100mm forks on either the Jack Flash or a Ragley Marley? I've got a solid set of Hope hoops there and some decent rebas, plus all the other parts just sat there. For the Marley, it says: Recommended Fork Travel: 130mm – 140mm. Looks like a very nice frame.

I'd say go for it. It's only 30mm which will equate to about 1-1.5° steeper head angle. Won't be quite as slack, but still ok.

*Edit + means you can upgrade to a longer fork when you have funds.
And yes, the Ragley frames are really nice.
