Hello,

I've got some Stans Crest rims, I was using an old Stans rim strip and an old(ish) Maxxis Advantage to tubeless - a bit of compressor action and BANG! Goo all over my face.

So.... what does everyone else use? Valves or rim strips? and what tyres? are there issues with Maxxis Exception series with Crest rims?

I've used them fine on XC717s and Alpines, but the Crests seem different.

Cheers chaps

Ricks

Yellow tape and Olympic valve. Rim strip makes Tyres too tight.

You need the narrower yellow tape and an Olympic valve for the Crests. I put a tube in mine and rode it for a couple of days to help the tape stay put as it gave me trouble on the first attempt, removing some of the glaze off the rim surface with a piece of rough washing up sponge also helped. Inflate tyre to seal it onto the rim before adding the sealant, then remove valve core and add sealant through it.

You need the tape to provide a seal for the nipple holes. Did you get Hope Hoops? I notice they do a tubeless kit to go with them and I'm wondering if you got a Hope green version of the tape already fitted.

The green Hope tape is just a std rim tape, if you want to run them tubeless you'll need to remove it and use stains yellow tape, you can use the 25mm tape, just pull it really tight and it works well.
