Evening all,
I'm have a problem with the above, basically the cage pivot points seem to be slightly siezed up the spring cannot pull the cage back down to the higher gear ratios. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what were you fixes. I've hopefully attached a pic to show the problem places

Thanks

Stupid question, but the cage lock isn't in, is it?
If it's not, then pretty much all that's going to work for you is getting some light oil on the pivots and flexing the thing by hand until it frees up a bit.
That's what I thought. Cheers
Simon
My fix was to buy a zee, my x7 kept loosening at the clutch and had loads of play in every pivot with 6 months, although it did take a beating in the alps
I'm loving X9 after coming back to SRAM.
I did have a binding bearing in a jockey the other week which I dealt with by replacing the jockeys although I could have serviced the originals (I've kept them in case I change my mind)
Over the last week I've also bent a hanger due to an unfortunate meeting with a tree, but the mech is fine. It's weird. I've finally dropped Avid brakes but moved away from Shimano shifting...
Let us know how this works out, anyway. A couple of years ago I neglected an XT front mech which jammed on the pivot. A bit of faffing with penetrating oil and operating the joint and it's been fine ever since, no sign of the previous jam. Hope yours is as lucky!
It will probably be a mix of sticky pivots and a weakened spring, the pivots can be lubed up but the spring will never get better, it will need replacing and if your sticking with Sram always store your bike in the smallest gear back and front to keep the springs nice and strong otherwise you will be having the same problem mid summer. I see it all the time with people who live at the top of a climb they put their bike away in the big ring at the back and the spring is fully stretched and loses power and then they loose the top gears. Shimano are better but all bikes should be stored in small small gears and occasionally upside down to help lube the fork upper bushing and foam rings.
Have Surosa Cycle in Oldham shut down?
Edit - replying to the post above, which has been, er, edited
That's a bit of a non-sequitur; did you mean to start a new thread?
Anyway, their website is down, but I'm sure there was an ad in the mag recently.
Yes I did still sad to hear Andy
whatever you do, DO NOT (I repeat, DO NOT) use GT85 on the pivots. The chemical additives in the fluid which help it work as a penetrating spray, cause the composite body to swell and bind more tightly on the pivots. I see bike shops do it all the time - "sticky pivots? Some GT85 will loosen it up!" err, wrong! What they will have just done is made the mech worse over time.
Use some chain oil and a bit of patience.
Daveb talks sense with storing the bike in the smallest sprocket too.
It could also be worth checking that you have the correct 8mm(ish) b-tension gap from jockey wheel to cassette, as this can significantly affect how precise the shift works and whils its not a solution for a mech not pulling down to 8/9/10, having the correct setup gap will speed the shift significantly and help the chain track better.
