I have a GX equipped bike. I was thinking of buying a spare rear mech before heading off on holiday.

I idly wondered whether a Shimano 11 speed rear mech would work. My head said no, but then I read the last line on this page.

Has anyone tried this? Does it work?

My go-to page for what works with what agrees that they're very close (certainly closer than Shimano 10 and 11 speed MTB gear, which I know people mix and match).

I'd be interested to know too if it works.

Yes it does work, I have done it with a 11sp GX gripshift and a 11sp XT rear.
Initial set up is a little tricky it's a fine line between being bang on and just off.
With a grip shift I did have to adjust the clutch as the pull was a little too hard not sure if this would be the same for a normal shifter but i doubt it
