Hey folks,

After just getting back from a great trip to Luchon in the Pyrenees with AQR, I'm already dreaming of next year's trip away.

Previously ridden a fair few places (Morzine, Finale Ligure, Madeira, Tenerife, Lake Garda, Sierra Nevada and Verbier) and looking for some inspiration.

I'd like to maximise the uplift and take in descents that are more XC (flowy and not super technical).

A pre requisite is that the riding has to be within a two hour transfer of a direct flight from Scotland.

Last year, we thought about Livigno and Graubunchen prior to plumping for Luchon.

I've always fancied Doug@BasqueMTB but that just seems to be a bit expensive for the folks I ride with.

Any thoughts?

I did the backcountry Pyrenees trip with BasqueMTB earlier this year and it was worth every penny. Superb riding every day and options to do more runs until your legs fall off (I opted for the easy option and early beers on a couple of days!). Just save up and you’ll not be disappointed.

Fat-boy-fat - of the places you've ridden, where'd you rate most?

Hey chevychase. Difficult question that one. For ease of access and sheer number of trails, Morzine is hard to beat. Super technical trails on Finale. Sierra Nevada has a wide range of trails that take some getting to as does Luchon. Madeira is a single shot up then down down down (which is nice).

Jeepers, in the end I'd say Finale closely followed by Morzine for the quality of trails and Luchon for the quality of guiding.

Oblongbob, you won’t be disappointed if you’re going with bike Verbier, I was there several years ago, it was outstanding, great riding and a great company.

How about Bourg-Saint-Maurice? 2hr from Geneva airport. Les Arc and La Plagne right there, St. Foy 10 mins up the valley, Tignes/Val d'Isere a bit further up, and La Thuile just over the Col. Lots of options for accomdation and guiding, WhiteRoomMTB or Bike Village for the full package. I can recommend Whiteroommtb from personal experience.

Dump your cheap mates and take the flash ones to Basque.

Based in Malaga. Only a short drive to/from the airport, if you get the right flights you can even ride on the days you travel.

Cheers for the thoughts. The latest ones remind me of how good it was to ride in places we've been before!

The riding around Sierre and Sion in Switzerland is totally epic. Have a look at routes for Plaine Morte and Bella Tola. Epic riding if you like big mountain routes. There is a couple of guide books available for the area, i can post a link up later if anyone is interested.
