I’m running 11sp 1xRival on my gravel bike and need to replace the rear mech, cassette (10-42) and chain.

I am trying to work out the cheapest option and I think I can replace this with SRAM NX or GX. I’d like to run 11-46, I have a both free hubs for my rear wheel (XD and HD) so don’t need to stick to XD.

Will the Rival shifters work with a setup as above. Any help gratefully received! Thanks

Just to give you more options - I'm running a SRAM Rival 1x derailleur with a Sunrace MX8 (11-46T) on my gravel bike which gives a wider range and (IMHO) better ratios than the NX one I had fitted previously.

Are you still talking 11sp? Not clear.
If 12sp then search for Ratio kit. Yet to buy myself but mods your shifter to work with 12sp eagle. I’ve got spare eagle kit so seems £75 well spent for a wide range 1x setup.

I'm running a Sunrace 11-46 with Apex 1x11. It was a bit iffy shifting until I used a Sonder Spur hanger extender.

As far as I'm aware the 11sp mtb and 11sp gravel / road mechs have different pull ratios. But I think it is possible to mod a MTB into road ratio shifting by swapping the cable guide(?) On the mech.

OP you said cheapest option. I use a ztto 11-46 slr cassette; currently £63.74 on AliExpress.
Paired with either Rival1 rear derailleur or Apex1, both work without needing an extended link.
Both rear derailleur work with rival1 shifter.

Not the best pic but you can make out the cassette etc. On that bike the chainring is 37t. I’ve also used the above drivetrain on a different bike with a 46t and 44t chainring.

Maybe not quite what you're after but Microshift Advent X stuff is super cheap on CRC right now - 10 speed but 11-48 range. You'd need new levers too, but I've just bought a cassette, mech and levers for under £125 for a drop-bar conversion.

Some great replies, thanks. I’m running 11sp. I’ll have a Google of the Ztto.

The microshift group is super cheap, problem is I have hydraulic brakes….

Ratio kit? So basically you buy the kit and 12 speed chainring, cassette and rear mech

Unless your focus is heavily on ‘cheapest up front cost’ I’d say just replace like with like. The gx cassettes are great, marginally more range than an 11-46, a fair bit lighter despite being all steel and last for flipping ages so the up front cost is pretty reasonable.

SRAM 10 speed MTB derailleurs have the same pull ratio as 11 speed Rival/Apex. I've used a GX derailleur with Rival shifters successfully.

So a 10sp GX rear derailleur works ok. That is really good to know as it’s way cheaper than a Rival rear mech.

I guess I need the long cage flavour to work with 10-42? Does the 10sp mech work ok with an 11sp chain?

I’m running 10-42 and that ratio is fine.

So it all comes down to cost. New Rival rear mech and an XD cassette are eye watering….

So I could go non-XD driver in 11-42 swapping my freehub over and then buy a cassette for around half the price of an XD..

GX rear mech, half the price of rival so around £120 for both….

I went long cage and 11-42 with two rings up front. It worked fine.

That’s interesting @bax_burner as I am planning to fit a larger cassette to my touring bike for some rough stuff over Summer. The current force dr is on max capacity with the 36t cassette and as I am 2x I have heard that the rival1 dr don’t allow enough capacity to cope with the front dr use. I might try a gx to see. You not had any problems with running it wider on the limit screws for cope with the 11 speed cassette over a 10? I know the shimano 9sp were fine as example
