Am I right in thinking the current PC971 chain on the market is very new and that going back a couple of years there was an earlier 'Mk1' PC971?
I bought a PC971 a year back to go in the spares box and gone to fit it and it's skipping under high load - now confused - was this old PC971 different? Cassette's just seen off it's first chain (almost at 1% stretch by the ParkTool gauge) so thought time to fit the spare.
From the bike I removed a SRAM 951 (which has been on about 10 months) and that doesn't skip, and neither does a part worn SRAM PC59 which I had lying around from the bike's original/previous cassette (note that cassette wasn't worn out I just wanted to upgrade).
I'm running a 9 sp SRAM PC980 cassette with a SRAM X9 rear mech.
I can't believe the casssette is worn out so soon - but its the obvious conclusion - so reckon on buying another new chain to rule out the PC971 I have as dodgy. Thoughts?
(And before anyone says anything - no I don't want to go back to Shimano I like Powerlink too much!)
