So I got the brakes from Banana thanks to whoever it was who put the link up. If it helps others, the front hose is around 85cm and not 90cm as said in the listing.

They will sit in the spares box until next spring more than likely but looking for help with barb & olive info please.

I've only used Shimano the last 10 years so am new to Sram.

Are the barbs threaded, they look much bigger than the shimano ones? if not and I need to buy new ones and maybe a longer front hose, where's the best place?

Can I use Shimano oil or does it need to be Sram?

Thanks.

Oh and what clamps?

Think I prefer ones that open rather than the closed ones.

Anywhere cheaper than the £40 they want for the matchmakers?

Cheers

Yes, the olives are bigger cos they're threaded

Mineral oil is pretty much mineral oil, so I'd think Shimano would be ok. I get hoses off ebay sellers usually.

Officially Sram says

  • Designed for use with Maxima Mineral Oil only.

So, to avoid warranty mishaps etc. I'd go with that. Not needed to bleed mine as far as I remember. Bleed kit companies like Epic sell 3rd party mineral oil for them, so...

The matchmaker clamps are pricy huh. About £17 on ebay is the cheapest I can find. There are Chinese knockoffs for £10 less if you're not bothered about the hinge.

i left the existing hose in my eeb and just swapped teh lever and caliper from teh DB8s usign the existing olive and barb and they arnt leaking yet - i did buy replacement sram ones but they took ages to arrive.

i have the cheapo clamps without the hinge and you have to crank em up super tight to get them to clamp tight enough - if you have carbon bars pay the extra for teh hinges.

any mineral oil will do!

  1. Were your old brakes mineral or dot?

When I cut down my rear, I used SRAM specific olive and barb that aren't the threaded type that I had in the spares box for ages so can't remember where I got them from but look much like this.  They are a different size to Shimano but fitting is exactly the same process.  I didn't need to bleed but would have used the mineral oil I've got kicking around if I had.

I got my bar clamps like these off Aliexpress for a couple of quid each.  Came in less than a week.

Can't help much on the hose front other than suggest buying a rear only from Banana Industries and cut the hose to fit.  Assuming it's a full brake and not just a lever/caliper then you've spent £26 for a full brake against £10+ for just a hose.  You'll also have avoided the faff of fitting a new hose, have a spare set of new pads as well as a spare caliper or lever ... or just sell your spare front for £15.
