Hi guys,
Just come to replace my bb and the middle chainring on my ragley x7, and it looks to be more of a minefield than I thought. I've been doing all my shopping on chain reaction, not sure if there's any better websites, but seem good so far.
I'd been told that shimano and SRAM components should be fairly interchangeable - not sure how true this is.
I couldn't see any distinction in fittings for chainrings apart from 4/5 mounting bolts, so I figured that they're all the same - turns out the bolts in my current SRAM spider are about 2-3 mm wider diameter than the replacement chainring - is it standard for them to be different measurements?
Then I went to replace the BB, and that doesn't fit either - the original BB had an interior diameter of 25mm on the drive side, and 22mm on the other side as the axle is slimmer on one side, but I cant see this info anywhere on specs for new BBs, so I'm guessing they have the same internal diameter on each side?
I'm probably just being pretty dense, but thought I'd check, don't want to have to buy a whole new groupset for a new middle ring and BB....
SRAM and Shimano BBs aren't compatible ๐ There's other aftermarket options- Hope do an adaptor, Superstar and I think Token do as well. I wouldn't spend money on SRAM/Truvativ BBs if I could possibly avoid it!
Chainring bolts do come in different thicknesses but they're usually the same diameter, not sure what's going on there.
There's always a good case for replacing most of the SRAM cranksets with Shimano rather than buying parts for them tbh.
