Looking to buy a fancy new drivetrain for my trail bike and to move my current M9000 drivetrain to my Stache. I have pretty much always had Shimano, but I have a Reverb AXS on order anyway, so am considering trying one of the wireless drivetrains... I have a DT240 hub, so can get a new freehub whether I go with either of the big S groups...
Any opinions on either?

Only issue for me with Sram AXS is the cost. I really like the idea and think post and drivetrain are an ideal combo for wireless. I just can't justify or afford it.
If it comes down in price then I'll try for it, but it needs to be a lot less.
If you can afford it then AXS.

If you’ve ordered the reverb, I can’t thing why you wouldn’t go for AXS, purely for the integration/programmable controllers/swappable batteries etc. That was one of the main reasons for me ordering both.

Plus, electric shifting shits on mechanical, every time.

Out of interest, so you have a delivery date for the reverb?

I see overseas websites are now advertising just the mech, shifter and battery/ charger which is what will get my money.

Yeah, ze Germans were doing the esseantials kit as soon as the full groupset was available, seemingly splitting them themselves knowing their profit will come when they sell the cassette and cranks on. I had assumed SRAM had word, so folk have to wait for the official release.

You don’t get the (really rather nice) multi tool though...

If I was spending that much money on a drivetrain, AXS.

But i'm an idiot, who crashes a lot & makes stupid decision when racing. It would be just my luck i'll rip the rear mech off on something stupid. I'd rather not deal with the apocalyptic rage it will generate.

I'd go for AXS just so that you have matching shifter/paddle things, would be a crime to have Shimano under one and AXS under the other!

I'm also in the camp where I would love it, but go through rear mechs quite quickly and already wince when I hear how much the GX Mechs are each time!

M9100 isn't wireless though is it? Eagle XO1 vs M9100 might be a better comparison.

M9100 introduces yet another hub standard so it will be a while before there's third party hubs available whereas you can pick XD variant hubs up now.

From what I've read so far I'm not sure that for my riding - long day and multi-day rides in the hills - that the battery life on AXS is enough. The power to keep a Bluetooth connection going has to come from somewhere. If most of your riding consists of quick blasts around a trail centre then that's not going to be a concern.

having fitted AXS to a moots ybb recently for a customer I'd say AXS all the way. however if it was mechanical then Shimano gets my vote for less clunkiness. but when it comes to electronic I can overlook that just for the neatness of no cables or wires

That because shimano won’t let them realease them yet. All the major players have the new freehub ready to go.

20 hours per battery in the mech, 40 in the reverb. Spares are 25g and £30. Yes its extra expense, but this is a £1900 (£2600 with the reverb) groupset, so hardly a deal breaker.

Shifter battery lasts 2 years, off a watch battery.

OP has a DT 240 hub which isnt a problem.

I assume they have either an exclusivity agreement with DT, or wanted folk to buy their own hub (though they’ve shelved the sylence design)

Thanks guys, I think AXS takes the win then! My seatpost is due by the end of next week from JensonUSA. I’ll report when it shows then I’ll get the rest ordered... That gives me time to decide between XX1 and XO1. I’m not a kit breaker, so I’m leaning towards the rainbow stuff B)

@tomhoward - 20hrs isn't enough, honestly, I was 19hr50mins on my last race and that was a short one (no charging available on course either). I appreciate that it's very much an edge case.

I'm not against electronic shifting, I considered it (Di2) when I built up my Spearfish but couldn't justify the cost when compared to a mechanical system. If the price differential had been say an extra 50% rather than 200% then I'd have gone for it.
