I've seen that you can buy a sram 11 speed cassette with a traditional lock ring set up instead of the xd set up .question is, will this fit in a 11 speed shimano freehub?

Yes sunrace Mx8 is a better option.

Would that work with standard derailleur though?

Bit of a Spinal Tap cassette, like the XT one, i.e goes to 11 instead of 10.

I get very good performance using a 11-46T MX8 with a GX mech. Gives you a little more range than the 11-42T sram and is 70g lighter.

Yes, SRAM NX cassettes (e.g. PG-1130) will work on Shimano freehubs. It's the cheap end of the market and quite heavy.

An XT 11-42 would be a little lighter. There's an 11-46 also. XTR lighter still but more expensive and only goes to 40t.

Also worth looking at Box Components 11-46t (apparently made by Sunrace). Look a bit like SRAM's cassettes in the way they're vented.

The NX cassette does fit the old Shimano freehub, yep but it might be missing the point a little depending on viewpoint.

It is an 11spd cassette but is stuck with the 11T top that comes with the Shimano way and all the stuff that might or might not be a downside again depending on view.

It’s not really a cheap way into the SRAM system as there’s nothing about it that makes SRAM shifting work any better than a Shimano or Suntour cassette.  It’s for the OE market really.

At this point in 1x11 it’s really best to think of the shifter and RD and cassette as two separate but compatible items with different ups and downs. Shifting is largely an ergonomic decision with RD driven by shifter choice, but cassette choice is crucially a deciding factor for your drivetrain - 1x11 is quite tweaky in terms of matching ratios to riding style and  that 10T top does make quite a difference to flat speeds if they’re important.  No real reason not to mix shifter and cassette manufacturers to achieve an aim.

I havent really explained , I currently have the sram 11 speed stuff on my specialised enduro . Tell cassette is stuck on the xd driver as the splines have all snapped off. The bearings are buggered in the freehub. I don't think I can change the bearings with the cassette stuck on? It means I need a new cassette,  nee driver , bearings in hub as well. Looking like a dear do. I have seen a couple of wheels on eBay that come with the standard type freehub. I'm thinking then for just the price of a non xd cassette I'm up and running again ?
