Why are they so massively different?
For those interested, im still playign around with my new Tigon and for reasons i cant explain the numbers are getting to me. Cane Creek advise to "round down" on the spring weights, which is why when i spec'd using he TFTuned app i went for a 450lb spring. It does seem too squishy, but i may just be tryign to get used to coil again from the X2 (didnt like at all)..
TFTuned calculator suggests a spring weigth of ~465
Suspension Lab suggests 489
EXT 475
JTech 548 (which uses levage ratios)
these are all to get ~28% sag, though im told this could still be high for the Rune.
What do you weigh?
kitted somewhere around 93kg's -im trying to lose a couple though as my belly has consumed much good food and beer..
Sadly, the calculators are only part of it, I bought the roughly calculated spring and the next 2 up in sizes.
So I have a lovely collection, which is handy for changing for difference places
It seems about right, how does the balance feel to the front? How does it corner, descend?
As above, I would buy 3 cheap steel springs off eBay and test on a well known trail (same brand if possible)
You'll get a rough idea and can either sell the spares or keep them for the pie balance
I have no idea TBH, but how does the Tigon feel on the trail so far?
I'd say generally balanced, not had any undue diving, though did notice the back end really sink into a big fast compression, but that could easil be a damper setting. I've also changed from Smashpotted Pikes to Zebs, so im trying to understand what im feeling is fork related or shock. It doesn't help that this time of year is not great to test forks or shocks. I've got a biggish ride this weekend, some fettling with settings may be a good chance to slow said ride down and figure if i am too soft <fnarr>
Generally very nice, with the excpetion i have the 'feeling' of sitting too far into the travel, but it's only 3 rides in so far, 1 very muddy, 1 very frozen 1 on the thaw. Whats the best way of measuring sag in a coil shock on your own?
Whats the best way of measuring sag in a coil shock on your own?
Move the bumper up so it's flush with end of the damper, and then measure like you wood with a gnarometer (rubber ring) on an air shock.
Can you get to a lumpy, dry-ish track and repeat with various rebound and compression settings to rule those out?
Would a Sprindex spring fit if you feel you're between weights, or want to experiment more?
Someone on the banshee forums mentioned Sprindex spring, it may be a good way of delaing with it but another £120 eugh. Will see what this weekends ride provides..

I think the suggestion from somebody else above about grabbing a few cheap springs to test is better.
Or a few secondhand VALT springs and sell on the ones you don't keep.
