How much is unacceptable? I have an average of 2.13mm showing on a finished wheel despite comparing notes on several calculators (although DT Swiss says round down, Sheldon says round up.

They sound a touch short, but provided there is plenty of thread in the nipple itself, they'll be fine. 2mm of thread showing is pretty normal. I always round down.

Do you mean too long or too short?

If they are too short then you should be OK, if too long then the nipple thread will probably bottom out on the spoke thread, so it won't work. Anyway you've built it now so just ride it and see.

Before building, what you can do is lace up 3 opposing pairs of spoked around the wheel first to see if the length will be OK (on both flanges if necessary) - much quicker than lacing the whole wheel!

Unlikley to cause any problems - I've certainly built wheels with similar amounts of thread showing with no issue.

Should be fine, did you use 12 or 14mm nipples for the build / calculator

Ally or Brass nipples?

On aluminium I personally would consider a rebuild. That's about 1/3rd of threads not preperly engaged.

I don't think 14mm alloy nipples are available.
