De Kas. Incredible food in an old greenhouse on the edge of a park. Not cheap but well worth a look.

Café-restaurant van Kerkwijk just off dam square was good - very small though, so fill up and is a bit cramped/noisy

We went to Geetje a few years back and had a great meal. Apparently its about as close as you can get to traditional homemade dutch food (most of it is a fusion from the old empire days) and we enjoyed it even if its a bit of a walk.

Luna in Jordaan. Great little Argentinian steak house, just outside of the centre. Thai Tiger on Javaplein near the Eastern Docklands is damn good but can be a little out of the way. Pizzakamer in De Pijp. Omelegg also in De Pijp, is great for breakfast or lunch, but can get very busy. Not far from the Albert Cuyp market.
