Am wondering about doing the Southern XC race on Sunday, but not sure what category to enter. I'd normally race Open in the Gorricks (have been placing around 6-8th recently), but for the Southern XC races both Open and Sport do the same number of laps (3). Any advice?

Open if you want a more chilled out race, Sport if not. Sport if you have a license and are hunting promotion, Open if not. How do you fair in the Gorricks?

Don't have a license, "have been placing around 6-8th recently" [in Open in the Gorricks].

Mainly trying it to see how they compare to the Gorricks really, but want to make sure I'm not sandbagging in Open.

Looking at results from last year I'm none the wiser - they both are the same number of laps, times are very similar, just Open has about 90 people in and Sport has about 40 people in - 😕

Sport can be pretty fast, so try Open first which is still pretty competitive. The course is pretty flat with about 50:50 fireroad:singletrack so should be very fast. More variety of speeds in Open so you are always racing with someone which I like. Have you seen the preview video...
