Heading up that way next week, wondering what the conditions are like.

Do I need to pack a snow shovel?

Was around and about the southern cairngorms last weekend. From Ben Avon there looked to be not much more than a dusting of snow on Lochnagar. Nothing below 1000m i'd say.

Might all have changed by now of course.....

Can change dramatically with just one dump, fnaar fnaar. What you want is MWIS to know what's happening HERE

Hang on, I'll just check............................................................

Just had a look outside and the hills are clear. The sky is overcast just now, and we had rain this morning. The freezing level is still above the tops, but if it drops as quickly as it did last week (minus 10 in Braemar)then conditions could get icy.

I concur with CaptainMainwairing, use MWIS before you set off up the hill, and be prepared to bug out if things change (which they do very quickly).

MWIS - noted cheers, just wondering what it was like in broad terms. Weather looks set to improve from the weekend onwards, so here's hoping.

clicky This site is surprisingly useful for spotting what conditions across scotland are doing actually...
Obviously it's a bit useless at night, and the cams often don't play ball, but for general spying on weather it's ace.
I daresay there's a similar one for south of the border too.

On Monday there was a lot of thick ice. From Broad Cairn we could see a lot more snow on Ben Macdui and Cairn Toul to the north but as stated above there was just a sprinkling on Lochnagar. The ice was pretty tricky to negotiate in a few places.

Looking at that Traffic Scotland link right now shows a bit of snow lying by the road everywhere north of Fife.

Eh? No snow here in Moray.

Edit: Bejaysus just looked at the cams and there's snow just down the road. Hurrah, might get 1st proper snowy ride of the season in then.
