Having another go at riding the SDW in a few weeks - anyone got a recommendation for accommodation in Winchester?

Cheers

Holiday Inn is pretty good.

Youth Hostel ?

Quite a nice one in Winch, an old watermill IIRC.

Yep agreed Holiday Inn is good. They aren't phased by you rocking up with your bikes (as long as they are clean).

Then you can either choose to ride back to the start to in Winchester or back to route after it's crossed the M-way.

This was the only arguement when we did the SDWIAD a few weeks ago. One of our group wanted to ride back into Winchester and the rest of us didn't. We offerred the "it's not the full route" person to do a couple of extra laps round the block in Eastbourne. He didn't bother!

Sadly the Youth Hostel closed about 5 years ago, so wouldn't recommend staying there! Holiday Inn would be your best bet.

Staying at the Winchester Royal in a couple of weeks, if you do advance booking it was (at the time) cheaper than Holiday inn. Plus it's only a few hundred yards from the King Alfred statue.
