As much as I love the solid confidence of my Inbred, I'm on the look out for a frame or bike that's a bit lighter (The IB frame is about 5lbs) and more sprightly.
These days the options seem pretty slim unless you've got a huge budget. Either get a UK microbrand frame or buy something like a complete Cube Reaction and save a packet on the cost of a new transmission and Fox fork.
Having not ridden an aluminium hardtail since the 90's, how do they compare to steel these days....Are they still stiff and harsh? As for CF, how do they feel on the trail? I'm also rather concerned about the disparity in price for CF frames - why is a Whippet so much cheaper than say a Maxlight KM810....what's the catch?
Any opinions, gratefully received 🙂
Can't speak for carbon, but there need not be anything stiff and harsh about a decent alu frame. We have a load of Genesis Cores, and they are seriously nice bikes - neutral handling, reasonable weight... plus a good degree of shock absorbtion.
