I'm looking at taking a few-days-to-a-week a little later in the year, just to pootle around the country by myself.
Would i be better off investing in a bivvy-tent/sleeping bag etc or pushing the boat out and staying in b+b's?
Never tried touring before so unsure how far i could ride in a day with luggage. If it's any help i did the C2C in a day so not totally unused to longer distances.
I'm thinking about heading up towards the Lakes through Yorkshire, then Kirby Lonsdale way before heading to the coast around Whitehaven.
If you take a tent/bivvy you will be more flexible on mileage. Why not try a weekend kitted out to see how you get on?
IME the weight only really makes a difference on climbs. Its nice to travel light and staying in pubs is good - but then its also nice to have the flexibility of camping.
If you do take camping kit make sure your luggage and racks is up to it. Good luggage and racks are expensive but well worth it.
I'm idly trying to figure out the cost differentials between buying luggage/racks & camping kit Vs a few nights in pubs/b+b's.
Whilst the idea of being free to camp appeals i also like the idea of putting my feet up at the end of the day and someone else cooking for me! A nice comfy bed sounds good as well!
