Given it's been snowing for a week with us I just had to get out tonight. So glad I did. OK there was some pushing and I got a wee bit lost twice due to everything being covered in two feet of snow, but thanks to the dog walkers I managed to do a reasonable amount of riding. Even my dodgy freewheel worked. And the Bramble Whiskey has never tasted so good.

Tis ace. But word of caution - my missus used to freak!

Generally I didnt tell her. But when I did - I never saw so much pleading! No No you'll die etc.

But then I got snow studded tyres on (that make **** all different in these conditions). She just looked at the metal studs and nodded sagely. All's good now! Never a word since (she always knows where Im going now though!).

I don't know how you do it. I tried tonight and just couldn't keep going or stay upright in the powder.

Ooooh onion you are one devious mother****er. Just you wait. Its one thing making us ride for hours up a snowy bloody mountain to meet you and you arent even there - but to think you are playing away from home with MY woman.

Edit - actually, you're welcome to her. Or you got anything to swap?

I gotta say Bruce that until today I was a bit sceptical like of your titanic sized bike. But TJ and I had studded tyres on but they were too thin for the slightly crusty snow. A real big - fat - floaty tyre; perfect!

Bin doing my little local loop all the last week as the snow came in showers (well, I've done it every night anyway for months, so nothing special) until last night at 11.30 when a) I hit black ice and had an off, and then b) ran into snowdrift I couldn't plough through - consequence: tonight's the first night with no riding for months, but it was -9 out there half an hour ago, with snow 10" deep and drifted to triple that in places........but it still feels WRONG not to have had that ride!

Just done 14 miles with the snow 18" here to 8" on the coast where I headed. On all paths I was 1st biker, some first human and a few 1st living thing since the snow! It's easy to lose the trail when the vegetation is all bent over under the weight of the white stuff and drifts changing the contours. I lost the camelbak to ice within minutes and almost had to stop as I could feel the frost nipping at my cheeks at one point but slowing down as I hit an untouched trail seemed to cure that. -10 when I started and it did get colder but it seems to be warming to a balmy -8 now. It's getting silly now, my snowy ride tally for 2010 is over 50!

just uploading a video of my rip round our local 16 mile CX route, it's only really rideable when frozen or verr very dry, I've ridden it twice this week , once on mtb at night and once on the CX during the day. Much more fun at night and the first time I've used my new lights.

fun fun fun

video (crap) to follow, it's nowt exciting but kind of captures the mood
