MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Hi
I was looking to order a solarstorm battery case , banggood don't supply them anymore
Looking for one like this
http://m.aliexpress.com/item/1314568186.html
Anyone found a source for them ideally in uk
Thanks
Sorry can't help mine came from bang good - they no longer do the protected 18650 batteries though. Anyone got a recommended source for those? Sorry for the hijack.
you don't need protected, in fact better with none protect 3400 mah from Torchy via UKVapes £16.99 for x2. Then simply charge with a nitecore V4.
Unprotected don't just cutoff, but fade over time so best for night riding.
With that box could you pop new batteries in mid ride?
yeah but only if 18650, although the runtime with x4 3400mah is around 3.5 hours on full, 6 hours on medium!
Efest batteries are pretty well trusted in the e-cig industry.
If anyone wants in on a group order, I might get a load in
Have a look on their site and see what takes your fancy and I'll put an enquiry in
Efest site
Same goes with battery boxes
4 x 18650 battery box
Interested in a group order depending on price
I'd have one.
Yes very interested in 2 boxes and 4 battery's if that order happens
I've got a a few of them on different bikes, I only use protected cells, (3100 & 3400mah) the larger ones are a tight fit mind, the run time is insane compared to the battery that came with my Solarstorm
I picked mine up from a guy on ebay in Manchester a few months ago and he had a container full of lights and boxes
---- hes not on ebay anymore ? but i have this email....
puresystems@yahoo.co.uk may be worth a shot
ps i payed £45 for 3 boxes and a charger
snowrock seemed to know a lot about all this and linked to batteries and cases here
Also interested in a couple of the battery boxes please
Add me to the interested list please. Two boxes. Email in profile.

Yes but if you let those batteries fade a little too much they will not recharge Lithium ions dont like to get totally empty
Chris - I don't think my emails are getting through (I've tried 3 different ones) - do you have another email other than the one you used a couple of weeks ago?

I tried to order those batteries and they were out of stock. I linked to the alternative offered by banggood (they don't seem any different in my limited knowledge) in the 1st post on p5 of that thread.
Would be very interested in a couple of battery boxes too 🙂
Right - I'll look into getting a price for 20 battery boxes.
Can look at batteries later
I've ordered a couple of sealed units from dx but I think the royal mail might have binned them. Put me down for a box please .
Iv just ordered an XT40 from from Pure systems with another battery box 😀 im collecting this afternoon and will ask if he has more boxes
I'll be up for 2 boxes, please.
I've one of these battery boxes, bought off a guy on here a while back when he bought a few in a group buy.
I've some blue trust fire 18650's that I've had for a few years now bought from DX. I've no idea if they are protected or not.
Am I ok to charge the battery's in the box using my magicshine charger or am I best to charge them all individually?
Thanks
oooh yes please 2 boxes and 8 batteries please.
1 battery box and 8 batteries here please.
I'd also be up for a group buy of 4x18650 boxes. Put me down for 2 pls.
8 of the 18650 cells too, pls.
I'm in for a box and 4 batteries( 18650) too
DX do these cases
http://www.dx.com/p/pannovo-b-c04-water-resistant-4-x-18650-battery-pack-case-for-bike-lamp-black-254957#.VAXRS_ldWSo

1 box 4 batteries here as well please
1 box 4 batteries here as well please
That first link on asbrooks post is identical to the solastorm one I got.
It's big and clunky, but I really like being able to sue trustworthy 18650 batteries and a proper charger (I use the nitecore one).
I'm interested in a group buy.
2 boxes, 4x 18650 (what maH are you thinking of ordering?), depending on prices of course...
Email in profile...
2 boxes and 8 batteries for me please,
email in profile kind sir
you don't need protected,
You really do with these cases, they have no in-built over discharge protection. You discharge below 3.7 to 3.6V and you will likely ruin the battery. Also protects from overcharging too, though this is less important as the wall charger will do this.

Its not a good seal on the box though I heard?
So as long as I don't let the light cut out, and be wary when its down to 1 bar?
Also what charger? I'm in the process of returning a Nitecore I4 to Amazon due to fault lights.
The Efest Luc V4 gets mixed reviews and no one knows what version they are stocking

My new Eagletac protected batteries fit fine but I do have some old Panasonic batteries that are a tight fit and just about seal
Hi,
Never one to miss a bandwagon, I'm also interested in two boxes with batteries please if any group order is on the cards. Email in profile
Cheers.
The guy from pure had a load of battery boxes but not only a few lights left (I bought most of them)
I actually bought some of these when I was having charging problems with the cheapo Chinese light bought of ebay.
I never used them, the charger was the issue. A new charger sorted and no problems since.
I may buy a box for them this year as they are higher capacity so should last longer on full.
Womp, I'd hate to be coming in the other direction to you. Instant sun tan! 8)

Womp what kind of chargers has he got? How do you rate the XT40 compared to the SSX2? XT40 gets bad reviews and poor thermal layout crit here...
http://forums.mtbr.com/lights-night-riding/solarstorm-xt30-xt40-anyone-883449.html
I've only done a quick test in the garden but it's certainly brighter than the SSX2, prob about the same when the XT40 is on medium and SSX2 is on high
The ones I have are XM-L2 U2 so should run cooler than than some of the other options (not sure how that translates in the real world)
I'll try and pop one apart to see if they are the same as in your link or if they have changed anything this year
As for chargers it's a solar storm 4 channel charger, I'll take some more pics of it when I take the XT40 apart
I'll enquire about the boxes shortly and put feelers out for the batteries and chargers.
Out of interest, do flat top 18650's work with these boxes, or do they need button top?
Hmmm dug mine out for first time this year and battery has been on charge for ages now:'(
Looks like I'd be interested in a box and set of batteries.
thanks TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsSTR if you can let me know how you get on ?
cheers Lee
Looks like eneloop by sanyo get good reviews
http://m.thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-rechargeable-batteries/
Although I did not know Panasonic brought out sanyo. So they might just re brand the cells lots of fakes too (as is the norm with most things made anywhere near china) http://www.battery-force.co.uk have them for £7 for 4
TheArtist
I've just had a box arrive and flat tops fit ok and work with the Solarstorm X2.
Protected cells fit fine in the pannovo battery box, no need to worry.
Artist-
I'd go for 2 boxes and 8 cells, let me know when you have a group order together.
Cheers!
Joe
I'd be interested in a box too please.
I'll be up for 2 boxes and 8 batteries please
Pk13 they dont look like 18650 batteries? More like aa or aaa
hi. id be up for 2 boxes and 4 batteries please.
Apologies for the delay for anyone who posted requests...
I've been waiting for wholesale prices for the battery box via Alibaba and never got a reply, sorry!
I have prices for efest batteries and chargers, but no boxes I'm afraid.
I've been looking around and the boxes seem to be out of stock on a lot of sites.
I got my box from e-bay, but had to wait for it to arrive from China.
Cost less than a tenner I think.
Womp:
What charger is that pictured on the previous page? I'm after something that charges to 4.1v as my DSD chargers do 4.2v which is too much for my Li-ion cells.
I placed a single order for a box off Ebay, but it's been that long coming, I don't think it actually is coming
What price did you get on the batteries?
Anyone managed to find a source with a stock of battery boxes?
stevemorg2 - depends on spec and quantities. I'll put a spreadsheet together and host it on Google docs or something
Also looking for a scource for a battery box, anyone?
...or even a decent battery pack.
Hypnotoad (member) I'll put some cells on the charger and let you know
I shall also dismantle the XT40 soon as promised
I've done a few commutes now with the SSX2 and XT40 with the batt boxes, they are working great, I have 1 box with 4 3400mah cells running two SSX2's, the beam pattern on the XT40 is wider and shorter than the SSX2 so they complement each other nicely
If anyone is on the lookout for a battery box AND a new light, Fasttech are doing a SolarStorm XT40 light with an empty battery box for about £30 posted: https://www.fasttech.com/p/1527803 and use code BLF

Just ordered one, thanks for that.
Thanks just also ordered one
This looks like it's worth a look if you don't need long run times (scroll down to the helmet battery case)
http://www.candb-seen.co.uk/accessories/battery-packs--chargers.html
I've gone for the XT40 and box that kevin1911 linked above, so no longer in the group-buy for boxes.
Still interested in 8 off 18650 batteries though.
Any news on pricing for these TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsSTR?
I've ordered a battery box from kaidomain.com, however on checking their order system, it is now on back order. Got the batteries, got the charger, got nothing to put them in. Grrrrr.
Got one! As per earlier in this thread Sam puresystems@yahoo.co.uk has them for a tenner + 1 p+p. I was also contacted by swampi ( a member on this forum) who has a spare to sell if anyone else is looking.
@Jonwe Ive also got one on backorder but received an email from Kaidomain yesterday, Solarstorm are working on a new box, it's currently undergoing testing and should be available in the next few weeks, I'm pretty sure it's not bull as I've been told the same from another supplier.
i cancelled my order kaidomain.com,yesterday i'll see what happens with a the new box
but iam starting to loose interest with Chinese online sites, why do they take so long to ship stuff!
Does anyone run these boxes with flat top cells or am I best to use button top?
I had no end of bother trying to cancel my order with Kaidomain, but succeeded in the end after telling them I'd just dispute the transaction with Paypal.
It is frustrating that they take so long to ship stuff, but when you consider the price of the stuff it's hard to complain. I got a quote from Royal Mail for the cost to send a light back to FastTech - it was £16, more than 50% of the price of the light itself!!
J273 - I'm hoping my battery box will arrive today, and I have flat batteries ready to go so I'll let you know!
Battery box finally arrived. Flat batteries fit perfectly!
kevin where did you order it from ?
kaidomain take forever, I ordered a light on the 10th and it still hasn't arrived.
At the tracking number now shows some progress, but still I'll think twice about using them in future.
