Yeah 650b has been around for a while,

you can run it on most 26" frames and forks which have good clearance which is a bonus.

As the Shep said - 650b has been around (in it's current misnomered mtb guise) for a good few years now and hasn't really taken off. I've ridden them a bit and while still nice riding they just feel very close to 26" for me. Which is not too surprising as they are only an inch or so bigger. Perhaps if you are used to riding solely 26" wheels you'd notice more of a difference, but as someone who's spent the past few years on 29ers there's not much in it. In an ideal world you'd have as many wheel sizes as tyre sizes, but given the practicalities for manufacturers and shops of stocking multiple variants I don't think 650b is 'different enough' for it to really take off for MTB use. For smaller touring bikes it's a different story.

However I know that at least one MAJOR bike brand is planning a range of 650b bikes - so that could be an impetus, for how long we will see. I think 29ers are here to stay, but again, whether 650b has sufficient differentiation is unknown.
