A group of us are making a trip to CyB in a couple of week and the plan is to get up early Saturday morning and do Snowdon before the bike ban kicks in (is it 10am?)

Has anyone else doe this?

What is the best route up and down?

I guess they dont let bikes on the mountain train!?

I read the article in MBUK the other week and they were saying it took 8 hours for them which means its impossible in the daylight??

Any help or advice gratefully recieved!

yep, curfew is 10am. in good conditions its walkable in 2 hours so if you ride some you could do it in a bit less or if conditions are bad you could add on a bit more. i'd allow an hour or so for the descent to account for mechanicals, punctures, playing on fun bits etc. four hours all in should be plenty barring a disaster.

most people go up the main llanberis path (no bikes on the train, especially in high season!) then go down rangers and pick up telegraph valley back to llanberis. this is a great route if you like techy stuff. rhydd du is a bit like rangers only a bit tamer but longer, or you could just turn around and head back down the llanberis path but be aware that you will no doubt come across a load of people on their way up at that time.

take a waterproof/windproof, some food and plenty of inner tubes; lots of potential pinch flats (our record was 11, none of which were mine (for a change))

Anyone rode down the Rhyd Ddu, how does it compare quality wise, looks good.

I fancy up Telegraph/Rangers next time I do it as I frikkin hated the push up Llanberris - bit steep!

I know the push/carry up the Rangers won't be too funny either, but I reckon overall it *might* be better. And more rideable.

I have been told off for suggesting it previously, but not by anyone who's tried it.

Did they get lost?

Did the Rangers Path in April. Up & down in under two hours so off the hill before 10am easily. Were both running tubeless so managed to avid any punctures.

s'alright. i rode it last year having already done rangers the previous day. it has some fun bits, one boulder field in particular springs to mind. kind of peters out a bit towards the bottom though. the very top section made me clench my buttocks! lots of exposure and a rideable but tricky line before id had time to warm up had me sweating a bit..

ive thought of that too rob, be good to look at lines etc. There would be some hard pushy bits but it must be less than half as far as the llanberis track

Telegraph path and Rangers below where it splits off don't fall under the voluntary agreement.

We've done it in the middle of summer. We camped in Llamberis. Actually it was such a glorious night we didn't bother with tents. Up early and headed up the Llamberis route and then down the Ranger. We were very lucky. We had a perfect morning for it. Not a cloud in the sky so the views from the top were amazing

I'd echo what Slowrider said. Take a lot of tubes with you. Its a war of attrition on the Ranger. Lots of sharp pointy rocks. We had stacks of punctures.

Oh.... and when you get down, I would recommend you celebrate with a gert big slap up fbreakfast here:

8 hours?
We did it in 4 or 5 with lots of puncture stops, cake stops, pishing about stops etc.
Ranger Path was brilliant. Properly focused riding.
