[Closed] singular swifts - how've you got your front end set up?

had mine 'on the road' now for a week or so, and am surprised by how high the front end is. ive always preferred a more 'sit up' position than leant over racer stylee, so that suits me. ive always been one to need a long steerer and a fair few spacers stacked under a stem on my bikes.

so i set it up how i thought itd suit me, but even ive been surprised that it was too high for me. and that was with an 80mm stem, 1 small spacer and riser bars.

so i tried my only other stem, which was 100mm, and turned it upside down and that was a lot nearer what i was after. but i reckon it looks crap ๐Ÿ™‚

im pretty sure i want something in between, so im after a 90mm stem now, and ill use some titec H bars with a bit of a rise to them. but it just got me wondering how everyone else sets theirs up, especially if you dont like the more 'sat up' position. ive seen them with midge bars, but thatd be too low for me, plus id want to use normal disc brake levers.

I think it actually looks better with the reversed stem - possibly because it's black and the other one is silver.

Lets face it - with those wheels it's never going to be a looker is it.

Looks far better in the second pic IMO. You have your saddle a long way forward don't you?

i hadnt really twigged that actually oldgit ๐Ÿ™‚ i spose thats how it was from my last bike, trying to shorten the reach.

now youve mentioned it im going to go move it and experiment again ๐Ÿ™‚

ive got some midge bars, but as i said earlier im not going to use them as itd put me far too low, and i want to use my oro brakes.

but.....im genuinely interested, do you find you can handle the bike as well as normal bars? they look good, but id have thought you just havent got the same control as normal risers for instance. and hands not being comfortably placed over the levers too. am i wrong?

I have a 90mm stem with 6degrees of rise, a 690mm flat bar and I think the headset has the lowest stack height in the world. 8)

No pics at the present, but I have a 90mm stem with 5 degree rise, On-One Mary bars and 22mm of spacers.

If it's any help the top cap is 101cm high off the ground.

How tall are you?

I must say I am toying with buying a Singular. I gave my Dialled Bikes Love/Hate to my brother last month and have been short-listing the possible replacement.

Obviously another Love/Hate is on the list but as I want a singlespeedable frame with EBB (I don't like adjustable dropouts) so to is the Singular Hummingbird, but I am quite interested in the Swift too.

Hmmm....

im thinking youre right mate. btw, im 5'10".

ive put an ad in the classifieds for a zero degree stem. as i said before tho, id like to use my H bars really, but even tho theyre riser H bars, ive compared them to the ones im using in the pics, and theyre a fair bit lower, so im thinking theyll be fine too ๐Ÿ™‚

just been offered an easton magnesium stem thanks dood, but if youd like to send me a pic and a price, ill choose between the 2 ๐Ÿ™‚

ill go measure how wide my risers are, cos i certainly wouldnt want any narrower, but tbh, im thinking that would be dead money as im itching to get my H bars on ๐Ÿ™‚

but again, pic and price?

thanks mate (dont spose you got a 17t freewheel in your box of tricks too)

not on a 29er mate ๐Ÿ˜‰ i think usual ratio is 32/18 for equiv of a 32/16 on 26" actually according to sheldon 26 inch mtb tyre on 32/16 is 51.9" and on 29er 32/18 is 51.8" so almost same but with the 34/17 its 58.3" so may be bloody hard on the hills ๐Ÿ˜‰ 34/20 is 49.5" so a little easier than standard . good luck with the choices lol

i just sort of worked out that im a 34/16 man on 26" tyres, and ive got that set up now on 29". and its just a bit too high for me. so go 2/1 on 29" and itd be fine. not really conversant with all that 'gear inch' malarkey ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm with Rocketdog, a 0deg stem and flat bar would be perfect for fit and I reckon will still look good. Mail me Dave, I may well have jut what you're after.
