I had one of these - 1989 / 1990?

I saw one again in town today for the first time in ages.

Used it for hammering around the Jumbles, Wayoh and Entwistle reservoirs - oh and the odd expedition over Winterhill / Belmont.

Doesn't look too shonky from a spec perspective TBH

I saved up for one of these... but what I really wanted was a Kona Cindercone.

Another Raleigh of a similar vintage (1988) to the first post. Still going strong!

Lovely bike.

That's brilliant, I clicked on the thread title thinking "no ones going to have had what I had - a Raleigh Disco" and there it is first post!

Seeing as I'm at my folks this weekend I popped out to the garage to get a photo of the beast. I think I got it for my 13th birthday, 20 years ago this month, and like all parents they bought it several sizes too big so "it would last me". I'm 6'2" and it fits ok now - not so sure about when I was 13 though!

Pity I don't have room for another bike in London - it would make a nice project to convert it to commuting duties.

I had a 1992 Kona Fire Mountain in black.
Worse bike I've ever owned, couldn't wait to get rid of it.

😉

I have been known to still ride it very occasionally ...

(Taken last week).

It originally looked like this one.

It's been wearing a set of 100mm Manitou's for a while, but it's not long gone back to rigid forks (tho' now it's on 29er PII's, not the 26 inch versions).

My first was a Saracen N-Zyme. It was alright, but soon got bits swapped including wheels, brakes, frame....

Early to mid 90's vintage Diamondback Outlook. Bought for ~£200, sold it just over a year ago for ten quid.

Can't find any pics of what I had as I can't remember the model. It was a Raleigh with front sus (RST or rock shox something) and a mechanical front disc. Think the model name began with an A. Think this was abour 2000. It was far too big for me with a 20" frame 😆

Like this one ,but with a super cool U-brake (just right for UK mudfests 🙄 )on the chain stays.

Got me round some major events .Still remember lining up at the first Aviemore Grundig and thinking " Those new oil filled forks are never going to catch on " 😯

1994 Decathlon Rockrider ... can't find a picture 🙁

Bought it when working in France in the mid-90s. Didn't have room to bring it back, so sold it to a friend. Bright red, no suspension, but a great first MTB. I also hired a HT for a trail in France (Monts du Lyonnais) in 1993/4, but couldn't afford one.

We used to drive to the top of mountain passes, leaving one car at the bottom and then hutle down!!! Happy days ... can't remember if I even had a helmet!

Raleigh Activator for me.

Think this maybe what _tom_ had?

It was shit.

Gave it to a mate and bought a Scott Purgatory.

1991 Marin Eldridge Grade, no pics of mine but I seem to remember someone else of this parish having a Pine Mountain of the same vintage.

I inherited a 1994 Diamondback Outlook fromy Dad in 2002, which i used for commuting. Looked a bit like this: [IMG] [/IMG]
I've not been mtbing properly all that long (which I remind everyone whenever my riding is particularly rubbish). My fist proper bike was a 2006 Giant xtc sx a bit like this:
[IMG] [/IMG]
I'd probably still have it now if it hadn't been nicked, after which I cought the upgrade bug.

Trek 820 for me in Red. Raced it in Cannock Chase Classic 1990ish and toured Scotland on it. Had it nicked from outside girlfriends

Thankfully, no pictures exist of my very first one, a British Eagle 531 anvil with a missaligned frame.

Returned it and went out and bought one of these on the day they came out:

1993 Palisades Trail.

It was gorgeous.
