I'm trying (not very hard admittedly) to convince myself that I don't want a Tracer with 36's up front.

Let me see yours to further er..convince myself I don't want one!

(preferably pics not including cracks :-s )

Love mine to bits. A little has changed, not much. Just want to sort rear shock out though (I'm 100kg's so it blows through most of its travel).

Curly68 - is that a boost valve fox?

I'm around the same weight as you too so am a little worried about that too... Ta

Or just shim the air can to suit the extra weight

Curley that's a beautiful bike!

That shot taken at the top of the monkey trail at Cannock?

OOooooh preedee

Does anyone know if anywhere sells the tracer with CCDB upgrade in the UK?

I can't really justify the extra cost afterwards and would then still have an air can to shift too...

I really do like works red too but mrs RRR isn't too keen and bizarrely its so much easier to get approval for a bike in a colour she likes!!

RRR- It's not a boost valve shock, just a propedal RP23.
anthonyB- Indeed it was taken at the top of the monkey trail on its maiden trip!

Ah ok, I think the boost valve on new ones is supposed to help out with phatter riders like myself!

So tempting , I just need to get a ride on one!

How different does it feel with say 150mm revs compared to lyric/ fox 36 etc ?

I need to achieve a tricky balance between all day rough peaks routes and occasional dh days / odd uplift...

You are miles away from Suffolk, I suppose? Could always have a spin on mine. May go up to Rutland Water in a week or so with the kids, if that is better for you?

Thanks for the offer curly but I'm up in Sheffield .

I think need to track down a demo bike near me and thrash it around the peaks to get a real feel for it!

They all look lovely in works red btw ... Seems quite popular like

Long gone and a little missed if I am honest. The SS is better though, for me.

How come? Just too lightweight for your riding??

I'd built the SS up to do the Mega next year as I had got an amazing deal on a new frame otherwise I would still have the Tracer. I had not ridden it at all until on one ride my riding buddy needed to borrow a bike so I lent him the Tracer and I rode the SS. I just felt more confident on it and it certainly corners better (very low BB). It does take the bigger hits better but then it should do and I think that I have been riding bigger stuff because of it. In all honesty though I reckon the Tracer could handle all of what I do it's just I'd rather be on the SS.

The Tracer does get up the hills better, is lighter and probably pedals a little better on the flat but out and out sprinting I'd say there is very little in it if anything.

My Tracer went through several guises and looking back I'd go with the following:

6 inch mode
Fox 36 with a flush fit headset to keep the BB as low as possible
Ditch the RP23 if you are a heavier rider and get a coil ASAP. Freeborn.co.uk sell CCDBs for £485

If anything happened to the SS and I could not get another I'd either go for a Tracer 2 (a few more months to wait for that) or get an Uzzi VP. The Tracer 2 looks like it will have a beefier rear end to the Tracer 1 although this does mean there should be some deals to be had on the Tracer 1 fairly soon as the shops try to shift old stock in readiness. I'd wait if it were me.

I'd also have a think about an Uzzi, I have the older version which despite it's weight is a really good, able climber and can obviously handle most things on the DH side. It really is a proper do-it-all bike.

Here's mine from an xc route that was 38km and had 1500m of climbing. A lot of people on the mtbr forums are running them with 36's (totems on mine).

Had a spin round the car park on a bloke's Uzzi (with Lyrik) and it was really light - well under 35lb I reckon.

Looked amazing in raw metal finish too.

But it's muddy! How could you get such a lovely paint job dirty!

I am tempted by the Uzzi, but it really is too much bike for most of my riding I think..
